I was at a sandbox tonight and all of a sudden a I got a pop up saying "1000 Free Lindens so and so has taken control of your computer..." containing insults and then a bunch of buttons to press saying "relog" or "so and so wins" "relog now" and so on.. I froze badly, and tried to TP out over and over, and then SL crashed and I was relogged to where I had been when I logged in earlier that day.
So... what the heck was that???? Am I ok?

Dialog spam -- a griefing method whereby a scripted object detects you and then bombards you with llDialog boxes to the extent that your viewer can't cope and crashes -- doesn't actually do any damage, as far as I know, though it's very annoying. Muting the object that's sending you the spam (or, better) the owner would fix the problem, but that's easier said than done if you don't know who's responsibile. The Emerald viewer, though, has -- or I think it does (the PAR plug-ins on which it based certainly did) -- a built-in protection against this, in that if it receives too many dialog messages from an object in too short a time, it just ignores them. You might try downloading it from http://modularsystems.sl/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=3&Itemid=8 and seeing if it helps.

I recommend that, plus emerald lets you see where the object is if it spams you in chat, as it's location is included ith the message.

I was so frozen that I don't think even clicking anything in emerald would have been possible. I just wish I had caught the name(s) it was more than one Av sending it. Think thats why I was so bogged down. Regardless.. another wonderful example of "time wasted" on yet another griefing tool. Do these people not know about Zyngo? lol sigh.

I had exactly the same experience the other day. The dumba@@ put his name on the pop-up. I am also using Emerald, so I used to radar to find the jerk sitting on a rooftop, teleported to him and reported his butt. As far as the pop-up, it wouldn't go away until I logged off. Once I logged back in everything was fine.

The relevant setting in Emerald seems to be Edit-Preferences-Emerald-Shields-Dialog Spam Prevention (make sure it's checked and use the defaults). I have never tested it, but if it looks like that's what you need.
If it doesn't work, I'd ask LordGG -- he's really helpful.
