Had a great time the other night in a non-dance area - a few of us were invited to click someones butt and we alll had a great dance.
I'd like to buy one - but they don't say if they come with music installed or if you have to put your own in. I never download music, have no MP3 files so it would involve a lot of effort and time to get the music I liked.
Anyone know of a dance HUD that comes with its own music? (or do they all?)

And most of the chimeras (the thing you were clicking on whomever's butt) usually only have ick dances preloaded: normally you add your own. Are you sure this was a HUD, and not just a simple chim? And that the music was coming from the avi?

The HUD does not need music and it probably would not work anyway because of the way land music workd. Even in non regular dance areas, the parcel will still be able to set the media to play music.

I think what is probably being described is a simple dance chim, with the music, of course, being provided by the parcel audio stream.

Would a simple dance chim be able to invite others to join in the dancing? (just checked on sstreetSL, yes it would) The site we were in was 'adult' with no audio stream that I know about (I'm set to automatic). Should have asked her at the time

Should have asked her at the time Yes, with the better chims you can invite people to dance. As for the music . . . hmmmm. It is possible to play music in-world without a stream, by various methods. Again though, I've never heard of a dance HUD or chim that came with its own music. But hey, maybe?

Can't be far away - the advantage is that you can be in a sim without music and have a spontaneous dance with a few friends to music you've chosen and everyone who wants to can hear. I'm new to SL technology/software so I don't understand what the advantages of a dance HUD over a chim? Looking at the descriptions they cando the same thing - invite dancers, drop new dances in - only chims seem a lot cheaper. So what would be the best way to get a few friends dancing and hearing the same music thats not provided by the sim? Someone suggested copying a radio URL into local chat but I've tried it, clicked it myself and a window has opened but nothings come through. I guess giving a link to for others to post in their web browsers would work - but it certainly wasn't that complicated the other night. Clicked on her butt and I think that was it ... maybe I clicked play music or media play along the bottom, unfortunately I can't remember for sure now.

The only way for a chim/hud to play music without having access to the land media settings would be to play short sound clips that would be horrific quality. SL limits the size of sound files, so to upload them and play them would be an exercise in futility. The only way to play music is to stream it in and that requires some control over the land. Unless, of course, you're just listening to the music the landowner has streaming in on his parcel. Your options are to learn to stream your own music to your land parcel, find a decent internet radio station to stream in to your parcel, or find a club that has a radio station you like and/or DJs that play your kind of music. Dance HUDs like the Huddles have more options, above and beyond a simple Chim. I've used a freebie chim for over two years now and I finally took the plunge and got a Huddles a few weeks ago. They are worth it. But they don't play music....the way SL works, you won't see that anytime soon.

From: Marta Vanistok Would a simple dance chim be able to invite others to join in the dancing? (just checked on sstreetSL, yes it would) The site we were in was 'adult' with no audio stream that I know about (I'm set to automatic). Should have asked her at the time No worn device will play music. For music, you have two choices: 1. Listen to the parcel audio stream. The maturity rating has nothing to do with it. Most parcels have some sort of music playing. Owners and other people with media rights (tenants, group members) can "change the channel", either manually or with a scripted "SL radio" object. 2. Play your own music through the voice channel. I do NOT recommend this. Most people on voice consider this a highly annoying form of spam. Those are your choices, because sound files that you upload (and could possibly put into an object for playback) are limited to 10 seconds in length. Dancing is another matter. The HUDDLES animation overrider can store your dances, and you can animate others to dance with you as well. Or the popular "chimera" device, which you load with dances and other people can click to dance along. If you like dancing, start budgeting some of your shopping $L for dances. You can buy very nice ones at places like SineWave and Henmations. It's good to have a collection, when you show up at a club whose dance ball only contains cheap freebie dances...or when you are on a deserted beach and there's no dance ball at all.

Thanks for everyon's responses - got a mid-price henmation HUD (only 12 dances), went back to the same place, switched the sim music on and got a few dancing.
Would have liked to have had them clicking my butt but the scan system works well. Downside is carrying on dancing when the news comes on.

necro-reviving this. I have a henmations HUD for my neko - but I've been thinking of finding something more simple and less laggy. All I want is a blank animation HUD that can randomly cycle the animations I put into it every X seconds where X is a number I can set from either a menu or text input. Animazoo would be perfect, but it cycles sequentially rather than random. I edited the script in it to make it random last night, but that then disabled the rest of its menus. I don't know why it disabled the menus... All I did was change: From: someone timer() { if(avatar) { // increment the animation count and set the new animation animation_current++; if ((animation_current + 1) > animation_qty) animation_current = 0; set_anim(animation_current); } }
into: From: someone timer() { if(avatar) { // increment the animation count and set the new animation set_anim((integer) llFrand (animation_qty)); } }
The full script can be obtained from Animazoo at: http://slurl.com/secondlife/Brightown/214/203/35- its an open source HUD. So... as that is failing... Let me know if anyone knows of a very simple dance HUD that randomly cycles rather than sequentially cycles the dances. Either configurable on the time to cycle, or no more than 20 seconds.
