At least that's what it seems like lately. In the last month...every time I am in SL, it is like walking through tar. I use my arrow keys to navigate. I use the arrow key to move forward...and nothing happens for at least 15 seconds or more. I can turn in a circle...but otherwise...nothing. Sometimes I appear to be walking in place and other times, I just walk into the air right off the sim. Then I will rubberband back to somewhere completely different. Today, I happened to bounce back to see myself standing right on top of someone laying down reading! This happens no matter where I am including home. Nothing has changed on my computer. Help!!

The only thing that ended it for me was when a new RC came out and I started using it but others are far more technically savvy than me so perhaps they'll have suggestions. Good luck.

Are you using a wireless or cat-5 connection to your router? It might seem trivial but wireless connections are notoriously flakey. How reliable is your internet connection? Have you tested your account logging in from a different location such as a friend's or neighbour's house?

While SL hasn't been running at its best lately, the symptoms you describe are typical of a bad network connection. If the sim and your client can't communicate, your client has to guess where you (and other people) are, based on what it last knew about your position, speed and direction. That's why you see the "walk in a straight line through everything", and as soon as information does come through, your client snaps you back to where you should be, according to the sim.
It could be you own (wireless) network, a router somewhere a long the line, or even (the sim's connection to) LL's network, though in that case it would hit everybody in the sim.

I've had this with renegade attachments - things that perform normally most of the time - then they just go wonky. Detach, put it on the ground, reset the scripts, pick up and wear again and it's fine. To find what it is, just start taking things off one at a time until you can walk. I've seen it with an open collar, and even my HUD that normally causes no problems.
That said - the above suggestions about network clutter and gunk - those could be answers also. But I figured I'd toss this one out too, since I've seen it before.

This is happening more and more lately.
Some point to a problem with Mono scripts...apparently, when an avatar tp's in and their Mono-scripted items start running, the sim chokes for a while.
But others are seeing this even when no other avatars are in the sim.
I think it's multiple causes, and I think LL is going to "fix" it with their proposed limit on scripts, instead of actually fixing the root cause(s).

Haven't seen that one in a while and I miss it. Really. Just can't get more fun that that.

I'm fine at 24-35 FPS

Hate to be the naysayer but just logged into SL and travelled to 3 regions I normally start out going to and with 57,383 online. I averaged between 24 and 35 FPS. We're on a wireless lan connected by cable modem. I haven't hit the lag issues many describe except when going to a region where there are between 80 and 90 avs attending a concert. I'm running a 2+ year old quad core though.

FPS is a client-side thing.. You can get totally disconnected from the sim you're on and still have a great FPS.
Moving around requires sim participation. If the sim is screwy, you'll get a very nice picture of yourself not moving. Or moving when you don't want to be..
