OK I recently got into a piece of land with a partner 1/4 sim I was setting up my 8192 piece spent 15 hours building and modding the area then when my partner went to sub divide all my stuff was auto returned to my inventory and since the buildings are too large to rerezz I will be starting over. BTW the building in question was 670 prims + or - a few prims.

The actual renter of the land is my partner and she cant seem to give me the ability to do the subdivide myself. She told me that it auto returned when she tried to subdivide it but items not within the new area were returned to my inventory as well.

So the land lord told her that she must do the subdivide Before setting up the buildings. I find this hard to believe cause how will I know where I want the land divided unless the buildings are up? Now she has done the subdivide on her side and none of the buildings were returned to her inventory.

I will not set up another thing until I find out what I can do.

I also want to know if I can sub divide 2 floors on a building, the sides top and bottom?

any suggestions?

it might be something to do with group settings (is it set to a group, and if so, is it group only allowed to build?)

as for the dividing land upwards, can not be done (I am guessing that is what you mean when you say top and bottom)

yes that is what I mean by top and bottom

Should my stuff get returned to my inventory when someone subdivides land ??

cant I subdivide without destroying the buildings in the area?

I can handle the fact that it happened but I have to know why.

Is it a glitch that my stuff was returned or was it a mistake or what?

Or does this happen all the time and a normal thing?

any ideas anyone?

should be able to subdivide without stuff returning

however if the land is set to a group, and the settings are set to group only, and auto return, that can sometimes trigger the return of items

also if the prim count of the items on the land are over the prim count for the land, that will also cause a return of items

it is hard to know exactly what happened without knowing all the variables involved.

IE group owned land?
land settings?

etc

ok so If I had 1/3 of my prims used it should not return my items while trying to do a subdivide?

well that depends

how many prims would the new plot support? (depends on how you are dividing)
I know it should still support the prims throughout, but I have seen some weird stuff happen when dividing land with items already on it

from what you have described, IF the plots being divided were remaining within the group that they started in, and the items are set to the same group, then they should not have been returned

doesn't mean they won't, just means they shouldn't

(SL can be weird at the best of times)

Check to see if auto return is on. If auto return is on and your prims aren't set to the the same group as the land it will be returned to you.

Check to see that all the subdivided land is owned by the same group or person, if your partner subdivided land and changed one of the groups whilst doing so, you have less prims available per plot. If they're all under the same group, you can place the prims how you see fit.

ok well the whole area our 1/4 supports 3750 and we each had about 600 so 1200 aprox on the land

the piece she was dividing off should have been 7500-8500 sq m worth and would have stayed with same group and settings

so it likely she made a mistake or SL messed up I wish there was an undo button to revert changes made in last 5 min or something cause this is a pain.

I just need to know cause I dont want to set up again and have it dissapear again

Are you sure the plot supports 3750 prims? You're not on a homestead are you? That would only support 937.

I am sure it supports 3750.

Well I dont know what to do should I rebuild and cross my fingers, or get my own land on my own so I can control it my self?

That may annoy my partner

well thanks for the help I need to figure out my stuff

Magnus something isn't adding up here, I've subdivided land loads of times and never had this happen unless I've transferred the land to another group. Go to each parcel and check, privelged simulator usage I think it is, you'll find it under objects.

ok it say simulator primative useage 981 of 3750 2769 available
the parcel I had my stuff on supports 2200 prims
417 on the parcel
owned by owner 87
set to group 0
owned by others.. me 330 (cause my building only 1/2 would rezz and its all messed up)
auto return other residents objects (# of min, 0 = off) 0

since the disaster 7 hours ago she has changed the group for the land but it never auto returned my stuff under new group and I just got online an hour ago and joind the newly formed group.

if she has changed the group, it is possible when she subdivided she did the group change at the time, which could have caused the land to send back the objects.

If it were me, I would get my own land, thus have my own control, explain to your partner how you want to be able to control it yourself and if things like that happen then you can only blame yourself, thus keeping things peaceful between the two of you.

(sharing land can and usually does, lead to headaches)
