Hello, Newbie here, any help appreciated

I am having problems with my screen view. I can only see the back of me. Any tips. Hello to all btw and all help gratefully received x

You can control the camera with the Alt key (Option if you are on a Mac). Click on something you want to look at and move your mouse around while holding down both the mouse button and Alt key. That's Alt-camera for you and welcome to SL!

That's the default view, so give yourself a cute butt.

To rotate the camera horizontally, use Alt plus a left or right directional key. Ctrl-Alt plus the up or down directional key allows vertical rotation. Ctrl-Alt-Shift plus any of the directional keys let you 'slide' the camera view. Sounds like a pain, but it becomes second nature in no time. Alternately, you can go to View>Camera Controls and use the on screen display, although I don't recommend it.

Well, that is normal. We all see our backs mostly, unless in mouse look, then you don't see yourself at all.

If you want to take a look at your face, either go into "edit appearance" mode (although that is borked lately) or press down alt and then leftclick to drag the camera around to get the desired view. But this only holds until you move, then the camera switches back to your back.

lol, I NEVER use my mouse for that...the directional key gives a much more controlled rotation. Meese are for zooming in and out only in my SL. Maybe eating.

Alternately, find a chair and sit in it or a pose stand and stand on it. Then the arrow keys will let you pan around and get a look at yourself.

Welcome to SL! Don't get dscouraged by stuff like this. the learning curve is steep, but once you get the hang of it, it's like second nature.

I don't know what that means. I described how I generally control the camera in post #3....I only use the mouse for zooming in and out, sometimes long distances. If I'm ogling my av or nearby objects/avs, the directional keys work better for me.

I use the on screen camera controls with the mouse. Works best for me.

Alt + Mouse is soooo much quicker - if like me, you make clothes, you will not want to wait while your avvy turns round with the keyboard method - the mouse gives you absolute and almost instant control - it lets you wizz round, up and down with a minute movement of the mouse. Ann - if this method lacks control you might need a little practice or a new mouse! LOL

But speaking as a clothes designer, I find it frustrating that I can't get a view of myself from the front when I am walking - it would be so useful when seeing how a prim skirt behaves. No, a walking pose stand won't do - no wind effect!. Apparently for some, using Shift + Down arrow lets them do this - but not me... Any other ideas?

A pose stand with a walking animation in it would be the first that comes to mind. I know I read somewhere that you can "lock" your camera in a certain position, so you can swivel around your ava, lock it and then walk towards the camera, but the bad thing is - I forgot how the locking went...

It wobbles.

Using the directional key to rotate around my av takes me absolutely no time, though, and gets the camera angle right where I want it...I guess it's all what you're used to.
