Thank you for any help you can give me in advance.

S

Ok.... let me put it this way..... snide remarks are so being ignored.!!!! Let me put it this way.... Had home network put in..... ever since then i have had problmes either logging in or staying logged into SL there is a conflict with the settings and I need to go in and manually fix the Port forwarding settings.

Was told that folks on the forum are always willing to help.... hmmm

Someone was gonna walk me step by step through this but never contacted me ::sigh::
I can get to the forwarding but it wants other stuff to change the configuration and I just don't know what i am doing and i am afraid i will make this worse.

I got on SL this monring.... then TP'd and again..... locked up ARGGGG

Why do you want to open ports? SL is not a peer-to-peer system, it will not speed up your connection.

/me rolls her eyes. It's a router with a built-in firewall.

Yep.. If you can connect to SL even for a minute, Shawna, you don't need to open ports..

SL need a few ports to be open. Otherwise very strange things can happen. This is taken from the supportpage:

"How do I configure my hardware firewall (such as a router)?
Hardware firewalls need to allow access on certain network ports. Second Life needs to connect to ports 443/TCP, 12035/UDP, 12036/UDP, 12043/TCP, and 13000-13050/UDP. You should configure your firewall to allow outbound traffic on those ports, and related inbound traffic. You'll need to consult your firewall's documentation, or the manufacturer's website, for instructions on how to make these changes to your firewall. As of Version 1.13.2, released Jan. 10th, 2007, you need to enable UDP/TCP in order to access Second Life."

Now...
To open ports in a netgear firewall, simply put www.routerlogin.com in your web browser. Then login to your firewall with username and password in the box which should pop up. The default username and password is:

Usename: admin
Password: password

Now i dont know if its the same for everyone as it is for us in Europe, but try atleast.
When you're logged in to your firewall, go to Port forwarding. There you add all the portnumbers you want to be open. You can read more there about details.

And dont mind the trolls they live here, just ignore them.

EDIT: And for gods sake DON'T open all ports.

I have a NetGear router, and didn't have to open a single port to make it run SL. If OP thinks she needs to open ports for SL, then she has, in fact, been given the answer - that you don't need to. *I* assumed she needed the ports opened for another reason - and directed her to the manufacturer's website, which would tell her how it's done.

To OP - try going into your preferences, then network. Check the box that says "Custom", under that type in 13001. It should work - but haven't heard of this necesssarily curing the "crash on TP" bug, which is well-documented.

OP, you did not give enough information in your original, *unedited* post, to receive a well thought out and helpful answer.

I believe Kyrah said to open all ports _outbound_, which is more reasonable (in fact it's the default on most routers).

And no, for the sake of everything you love, do not open all ports _inbound_.
