Maybe Electric Sheep will be hiring now, and some very nice guy in the forums will get his job back. There is usually a nice influx of money when companies receive an award like that. One can only hope :)

I bet they won it before they killed their entire economy in one fell swoop.

User generated content... doesn't that mean that WE won the Emmy, not Linden Lab??? ;)

...anything that is ever updated could be beta by that ruling ;)

I'm really confused..

"Pinball Construction by Electronic Arts?" I did a search for this, and found a game called "Pinball Construction Set" which came out in 1983 (for DOS PC and Apple 2)!

What timeframe were they looking at for the award? What was it based on?

omg, pinball construction is BACK!?!?!?

no???

yes???

::hyperventilates::

truly the most awesome app ever created. i got in a commie magazine with my pinball designs. ::coughs embarassedly:: um, anyhow... i tried visual pinball, but it was just too tough.
i DID see a commodore site where a company was actually bringing back commie games. however, the problem with PCS, as i understand it... is that bill budge wrote his own os to run the thing on, and so nobody can re-build it or re-release it or whatever, because... i dunno, its locked up tight inside his brain or something. :/

yeah, so if its user-created content... dang, nwn aint on there? that was one helluva toolset.

The tech and engineering Emmys are retrospective and they honor things from years past as well as current. The Atari Lynx also won an award this year (first handheld with a color LCD screen). So no new Pinball Construction Set. And the user created content award would be for enabling it, not for the content itself. I think it's really great to see ESC get a nod. They've been doing some really great work with things like The L Word, I Am Legend, and Beowulf. HBO, which bought Douglas Gayeton's machinima series last year had said they intend to submit it for consideration for an Academy Award. I think it's very cool to see this new medium starting to make some waves.

Aha. According to Wikipedia, Pinball Construction Set started it all.. it was the first ever game to allow user generated content. (And was, apparently, only 33k big...) That would explain the award! :)
