Hi. I found this great hat, but for the life of me can't get it to fit without my hair coming thru it in the front or in the back. Have tried several different hairdos - all with same results. Any tips? Or does anybody sell "hair for hats"?

so, you mean a bald top and hair on the sides and back only?

that's a good idea. hats are very hard to wear.

Yeah, something like that... or very formfitting to the scull.

Make and save a new hairstyle with bald top and try it with the hat. Just make sure nobody sees you changing! It does work, though - I made a tight fitting baseball hat which I wear with my hair in a tight bun at the back or a ponytail. it works.

You could make a hairstyle and build the hat into it, or if you have copy/edit perms on an existing hair you like, just edit the top off of it and add the hat as part of the hair, then wear the whole thing at once.

A number of the hair makers also offer hairstyles that come with a hat. These simply have no hair above the hat band level. The hat and hair are one linkset. Then they will sell the same hairstyle with no hat, as well. Celestial Studios has a few of those hairstyles.

I have made prim hats that work fairly well with a normal hairstyle, but they tend to look a little over-large, as there is no way to compress the prim hair the way a hat does.

So your alternatives are 1: Use "Avatar Hair" rather than prim hair. You can adjust the sliders to make you bald on top. 2: Find a 'close to the head' style, like perhaps one of Robin Sojurner's ponytail styles that use avatar hair on the head and prims for the ponytail, 3: contact a prim hair maker and ask for a custom job, or 4: learn how to make your own cool 'hair for hats'.

Edit Appearance, Make your head smaller.

or if your head is allready smaller, make your body bigger to make your head appear smaller

your hat should fit better

One of the best people I have come across to be able to fit hats is Chigadee London. Apart from helping people fit, she also designs some very cool hats! Give her a shout in-world and tell her that Kaldi sent you. :-)

Actually Trout did have a very good idea. 99.99% of all hair sold is copy/mod, so you can make a copy of a style that you like, then use the copy, edit it, and unlink the parts that don't fit under the hat.

Just thinking here........ I think Trout was spot on, because to save embarrasment when taking your hat off, all you'd have to do is replace it with the original hatless hair. :)

GAH!!!!

I just read through this quickly and didn't see anybody suggest the obvious.

Edit the HAT!!!

while its on your head, right click it and select edit. Hold the shift key(shift key or ctrl key? ...its automatic now to me so I can't recall the actual one) down and you should see small white "grab boxes" on a square box around the hat.
Grab one of those boxes with your mouse pointer while holding down the shift key(or ctrl key...see above) and drag the hat to a bigger size.
Then use the edit arrows to move it around on your head. (Whne you resize, it will pull the center of the hat towards the direction that you are "re-sizing" it.

That solves the problem of hair sticking thru the hat, Markubis...but it leaves you with a Very Large Hat. In most cases, it looks pretty silly.

With some hair...

Put on the hat.
Edit the hair.
Check the Edit Linked parts box.
Click on hair that sticks thru hat, and adjust/delete it as best you can.

When done, save that as hat hair, or maybe link the hair and hat and save that.

Or, wait for HAVOK 99, which will have hat and hair physics, I am sure.

Hat/hair physics is a whole higher VAT level.

If it's done right, it will look fine. Unless we're talking Cindi Lauper/Motley Crew hair...hehe

I can't be bothered to edit and save hair specially for hats, lol, I'd rather shop myself to death. You can find individual styles that work well with hats.

Some hairs that I've had work with more than one hat:
Bewtiched:
Laynie
London

Goldi Locks:
Charity

Diversity:
Starlet

Mau & Mei's:
Kala

Kin (at Body Politik) has some styles that I'll be trying with hats.
