I made a new account and I have a problem with my avatar. Its just a puff of smoke floating around, I was wondering what I can do to get my avatar to be... well, my avatar...?

That is what it looks like if your inventory hasn't loaded yet. You can sometimes hasten the process by opening the inventory window, and typing an "a" in the search box, so it forces a start of indexing your inventory items.
If that fails, the sim you're in may be laggy. Try teleporting to another sim.
If all else fails, try clearing cache in your preferences, and logging out and back in again. Repeat the first steps I mentioned to force a reindexing of your inventory.
The cloud form is preferable to what used to happen in this case, where an unrezzed avatar, male or female, would initially appear as a default female character, and sometimes completely unclothed!

Is this an alt or the first and only accunt you have? The reason I ask is that if it's a second (or more) account all the accounts share the same cache folder on your computer. Try clearing your cache or even deleting it entirely (the folder will be rebuilt the next time you launch SL).

Also I know this does not help the OP. but if you login and are clouded or somebody else is clouded. just either change your group or have them change there group to another. it makes them come out of clouded mode and load.

I think you can click "test avatar" or something in the advanced menu to fix it too........but not sure. |

Reset your router.
Go to a sim that isn't busy.
Try rebaking.
Try wearing a diff av or doing "test male."
It's not a hit or miss thing, it's just that we can't know what the difficulty is so suggest many things.

What kind of internet service do you have? What kind of router? Are you using networked computers? Wired or wireless router?
Are you using the new account at the same time as you are using an old account?
Are you using the new account on the same machine as your old account?

I have a Linksys Wireless router WRT54G.
I did use an old account on this same computer.
I restarted my computer, cleared my Cache, and I still float around as a puff of smoke.

That usually fixes it for me although this isnt happening now that I seriously upgraded my video board. You could also try scaling back graphics settings in preferences in case this is video related. |
