I do not understand the need to have a special SL credit card or purchase card or other system of purchasing items beyond the simple: right-click pay - the Linden gets deducted from my account and I am happy.
But i am also somewhat ignorant of these other systems and maybe there is some reward for using their payment system. _____________________

I researched it some, awhile back and decided against it. For one, just didn't want to be 'in debt' to SL, would rather have my Lindens pulled from my bank account and two, back when I was looking into it, not many businesses were taking it but that may have changed by now......mostly, I didnt want an interest rate on Lindens I spent, if I didn't pay the bill in full each month. I shop too much anyway, and could easily get carried away if I had a cc to use. ![]() _____________________

Ummm, that is something completely diferent than the "First Meta / Metacard" people. The latter is a bank in Singapore, set up under their banking laws, but to do SL micro-transactions. This URL that the OP cites has no apparent link to the SL credit card people.

Made a big assumption there, I thought it was the Meta Card that was being asked about......That's the only one I know anything about. _____________________

I've seen a few vendors advertising that you could use "MetaCard" to buy, but there doesn't seem a reference to that here, is that Yet Another System?

For what it is worth, the fact that the First Meta / Metacard people actually DID go through all their RL banking hoops is apparently why they are still in business in SL, long after the other so-called "banks" were banned. Still not sure I would endorse them, myself. But at least they put on a good show of jumping through the required legal hoops, and making their staff's RL identities public knowledge.

A plus in my book. But anyone taking an SL credit card just is not thinking straight in my book. Credit Cards = possible debt. _____________________

Personally, I agree. If I need a credit card, I have them in RL, and can use them. If I need banking, I have RL bank accounts I can use. All of which are regulated by laws with some teeth in them. In-world services that call themselves 'banks' or 'credit cards' are not subject to regulation, or can fly under the radar of the official regulatory agencies. Even if the founders of the in-world group are 100% honest and trustworthy, you're still better off with real-world financial services.

Because real-world financial services have demonstrated conclusively over the last year or so that they are completely honest, reliable and trustworthy and know how to manage their businesses so that they make profits while safeguarding the interests of their clients . . . My first thought regarding any sorts of independent banking systems in SL is:
'When you've got a round wheel already, why would you need a square one?' _____________________

Okay, first, MetaLife or Meta-Net.. or whatever, was once Meta Mart. It's a market place, rather like the HippoVend system. Except you do your shopping in world via a hud or MetaLife kiosk. Like XStreet and Apez (Free), they take a small percentage of your sale as a fee.
1. I /really/ don't like adding another hud to my collection of huds. It got in the way of my more serious shopping moments. Besides, between my Mystitool and my AO, I don't WANT another hud. 2. Setting up products require that you ALSO be in world, because the warehouse doesn't recognize the UUID of textures, so, you have to copy the UUID of your product image and paste it on the website. 3. In spite of what might well be their best efforts, I find that the number of sales I've had via their hud to be.. underwhelming. I would offer them a lot of critiques, but honestly, if they want to find a way to make it more user friendly, they should look at what works for their competition. But, it's another user owned market place and for all I know, it might work for others far better than it worked for me. _____________________

Thanks- I was reading those answers and wondering if I had not read far enough because there was no mention of credit cards that i had seen. _____________________
