Can someone give me a link to a decent explanation of why teleport failures are so common ? I'm curious. Thanks in advance.

How is the failure manifesting itself? Do you just get a quick message telling you that you can't teleport to that location because it possibly doesn't exist anymore or are you getting the long slow bar and then being logged out?

It would be an "undocumented feature" of the wonderful updates LL keeps doing to "enhance" your experience.

Are you enhanced?

According to Live Help, it's because you are wearing too many attachments.

Please remove them and stop enjoying yourself.

Heavily scripted objects can give you problems. Hair with resize scripts are the worse because every single prim has a script in it. If you have something with resize scripts, once you get it to fit, delete the scripts.

The past week has been extra rough for me with TPs. I detached all HUDs and made sure my hair/skirt/etc.... did not have any scripts. And I still get a lot more TP failures than just a week or two ago. And they all fail with the message something along the lines of "not able to do it in a timely manner".

Seems to me that there are a lot more complaints about failed teleports than there used to be. Here's my private bogus theory as to why, and how it relates to the number of attachments (I'd be interested in y'alls feedback):

Scripted attachments compiled in mono have been pointed to as culprits in sim stalls when avatars TP in. (Mono scripts incur a lot of overhead when first started in a server). It seems reasonable to me, therefore, that newer scripted attachments (likely to have been compiled in mono), incur more overhead than older equivalent attachments. More overhead for your avatar means that it is just that much more likely that one of the many handshakes taking place when you TP will time out, leaving you stuck in whatever phase of the TP timed out.

(p.s. if you are TPing into a busy sim, then even if you don't have attachments, your own TP is more likely to fail if the server is stalling while processing some other person TPing in)

edit: as time goes on, more and more scripted attachments will be distributed in mono versions. The problem will get worse until LL does something about mono overhead.

Mono may indeed have issues but the sim lock-ups got really bad around the beginning of May and mono came out last summer. They changed something, recently, that made whatever the problem is far, far worse.

No worries, though. LL is scheduled to work on the issue next year.

I'm wondering if TPs are as unreliable as people are thinking. Most times I TP lately, I get the black screen with the bar lasting a long time. I don;t know what would happen if I just left it like that - maybe I'd get problems - but I don't leave it like that. I click the Cancel button very soon after the screen shows, and I'm always at the place I was TPing to. So try clicking the Cancel button and see if it produces fewer problems.

Teleport Issues ~ HOW I FIXED MINE YAY!
10-09-2009 22:12
For some time now I have had tp issues ~ I would try and get to a new LM and SL seemed to decide weather I could get there or not. What would happen is I would teleport and the screen would go black and start to load a progress bar it would say "Contacting new region" and then just sit there till eventually it would crash and give me a gray screen saying "view IM and Chat or quit" if I cancelled before the end I had about 20 seconds before I would also crash and teleports would all be blocked. I just used to avoid these places until the other day this happened ofter lindens updated and restarted my home sim I could no longer go there. Man I was so p**sed off and with none of the normal solutions helping I did some research. The solution is as follows

The reason it seems it will not connect is updated DNS server protocols that my ADSL Router although only 6 months old only partially supports. To fix this you have 2 options

1 - Replace your ADSL router modem with a different brand

2 - Upgrade the firmware on the ADSL router modem to the latest version. This is the one I chose being that my ADSL Router modem was only 6 months old you can aquire an updated version of the firmware from your ADSL Router Modem manufacturers website and intstall it. The menu on mine accessable by going to 192.168.1.1. and entering the username and password would bring up a control menu for my ADSL Router modem. It has an option under the tools menu for update. I chose this and used the updated firmware to upgrade my unit to the latest. It is important to note that YOU MUST only use the versions of firmware for your model unit. DO NOT use one that is close or something. The wrong firmware may make your modem completely unusable. If you are not confident with this I would get a computer savy friend to help or just buy a new ADSL router modem, the linksys units by cisco work well.

After upgrading my firmware I find not only can I get to my home sim but all sims, and all of the places I used to have problems getting to I have no problems with. All my teleport issues I ever had were fixed by this one thing. The firmware upgrade was free and was realitivley straight forward once I tracked down an upgraded version of the firmware.

Hope this is useful for many SL people I am happy I can now get home again :)
