No response to this in the Tech forum, so I'll risk a cross post...

I have a new Insignia bluetooth headset. Works great...except when I enable Voice in SL. Then the audio quits. I can either hear, and not speak...or speak, and not hear.

Bluetooth Stereo Audio is set as my default audio playback device in Win XP.
Bluetooth handsfree audio is set as my default recording device/microphone.

The Geek played with settings and checkboxes and stuff for a couple of hours and then wandered off muttering vile imprecations. Either at me or the computer, I'm not sure which.

:(

So far, Insignia's own help desk has been unhelpful. They just said, "make sure your SL audio settings are the same as your Windows ones." Pfft. That was Step One, FFS.

I thought Step One was "Is your computer on?'

The answer?

Don't use a Bluetooth Headset with SL ... or on your computer at all.

Well, duh.

Yes, of course I could just throw away this Bluetooth headset. I got it mainly for my phone anyway...

You know, they really should tell you about the limitations of these things. I got the headset so I could listen to music and make calls on my phone. But...you can't use the headset on an airplane, so forget about that music thing during a long flight. :(

And of course, it's supposed to work with your computer too. Wonderful, I said. It's a LOT more comfy than the headset I've been using...it doesn't make my ears hurt or muss my hair with an over-the-head strap.

But the **#$#*@ thing doesn't work with the ONLY app I really use a headset for. At least, we haven't found out how to crack the code. The Geek's given up...he's decided to work on something simple, like finding and killing some self-replicating malware that's infected our son's computer. So any HELPFUL suggestions would be much appreciated.
