Hi, I have been trying to use the voice option on SL- I am on my laptop- that happens to have a built in mic which I do NOT want to use. I plug in the other headset- (creative fatal1ty).
I get ALOT of feed back and echos/hissing sounds. I know its coming from the built in mic and a conflict but I cant seem to figure out how to disable it. I like the whole voice concept just don't want to kill other peoples speakers and ear drums in the process.
Any ideas?
Thanks-
Snow

What settings are you using in the sound mixer? Does your new mic or your audio have software that will allow you to select input?
Are you on a Mac? PC? XP? Vista? Other?

Turning off Built In Mic
10-13-2008 10:55
As for what I am runnig- its an Acer Travelmate 2480- it runs SL pretty good which was a nice suprise for a low end laptop. It comes with RealTek sound card.
Its running XP as well.
As for the mic- its just a plug in- the one that Second Life sells however I picked mine up at Circuit City- the Fatalt1y one.
When I plug the mic and headphones into their jacks you would think that the built in mic would shut off but it doesnt- you can most definetly hear echos and feedback because of it. I worked on settings tweaking them in various parts of my system with a friend in SL the other day for 3 hours- still have the echo.... so I just need to disable the built in all together.
Any suggestions will be helpful- thanks-
