Floating text??

Yet another newbie question -

Here's a good one for you...
Somehow I have the name of, and description of a particular object that I purchased (for the bedroom) floating in a different room of the house.

I'm not too sure what the company might think - especially if they are just coming over for a casual visit. LOL :)

Taking back the item has nothing to do with it, and I have tried to remove the text itself but there is nothing to click on. I have also tried the "show all transparent items" trick and that doesn't help either.

Can someone help me?
And, no you can't come over. :)

Thank you!

There's a few options.

First off, the text is floating over an object: it would be in the prim beneath an closest to the text. The text itself is not clickable.

Many items with floating test might have a show/hide option. Try saying "hide" in open chat, (or "/1 hide";) and see if that doesn't solve the trouble. Say "show" to, well, show it.

Barring the simple solution, you can look in the object (right click > edit > select "more," then "contents";). See if there is a script in there called floating text. Modify the script if you can to remove the text. As floating text is a prim property, you cannot simply delete the script to make it go away. Just leave a single space in the place where the text was.

Also, there are scripts that will simply "scrub: a prim an get ride of dat -- but it could be problematic using it inside an object with other scripts you actually want.

Barring all the above -- contact th' seller and see what options he/she might have.

We can't help you unless we come over. You have to serve snacks, too. It's an integral part of the process. I like pie.

As for the text, I had a similar problem a few days ago. I ended up opening the object and dropping in a floating text script with the text string empty (just a pair of quotes). The text dissappeared, I deleted the script, and went on with my life. :)

coming over would make it easier to find the offending prim

putting that aside, look inside the walls, floors, other furniture etc (around the area where the text is floating), even though the script might not be there, use a scrubber on each of the prims where the text is at, that might clean it out for you

Thank you for the suggestions - I will certainly try them out this evening and if successful (and no longer completely embarrased) may even get around to having company. But right now I better work out all my newbiness nonsense first. lol
