heyas;

friday night my friend and i tried to go to csi for a little fun. no access. not in csi1, not in 105. they're on the map, but all empty.

i saw the thread about the minimum wage nonsense, and csi having to pay their greeters more money, and they'd probably close out their little venture real quick, now.

ah, well, that was MORE quick than i thought!! plus, i went to the web page, it has info on new cases, and even a new 'murder by zuiker.' it didnt seem to be closed. maybe they're closed for updating dead bodies?

anybody know?

Seems a lot like they have pulled from SL in a hurry. My formerly CSI-branded Onrez-viewer no longer shows the CSI start screen and registrations via the CSI website are closed, it gives a redirect link to the "normal" SL site instead.

As I recall, they planned to "close at the natural end of the contract" -- which means, ya, they shuttered it fast after the minimum wage thing came up. ;-)

If you do a map search for "CSINY" there are 8 CSINY sims. Four are off-line completely, and the other four report you don't have access to that location, if you try to TP there. The two groups of 4 are duplicates of each other. Didn't they used to have a lot more than that?

So either they pulled the plug... or, perhaps they are resetting the content for a new scenario to go with a new episode. They could be building new scenes in one set, with the other set off-line while they replicate content.

Personaly, I never bothered with the CSI stuff, beyond checking out the On-Res client briefly.

They pulled the plug. The start page looks as it did but if you click "join now" you get this message:

"Thank you for your interest in the virtual CSI:NY experience! Virtual CSI:NY has closed, but you can still explore other parts of the Second Life ® Virtual World!"

I never bothered with the CSI stuff, too, but my alt has now a much better newbie skin than the rest of us did. ;)

dang.

now i'll NEVER know who did it!!!

its funny, i was on cbs online videos last.... tuesday night? monday? and the top promo thing on the csi ny videos was the sl csi stuff.

oh well. the case solutions were getting really bad, after the final venus roundup. i mean, they kept pulling surprise evidence out of their butts in the video interviews that they didnt give YOU. i was ready to slap that dawson guy for withholding info from his investigators.

anyway, beyond imagination's zodiac killer game is TONS better. look for their group in-world and join up. zodiac's house is up til the end of may, then they're working on something new.

The original plan was for CSI to exist for a limited period of time. The second CSI in SL episode was scheduled for late February, and got pushed back to April by the television writers' strike. CBS reaired the original CSI in SL episode as the last rerun, and the second one opened the post-strike season. The network reserved the right to extend the run based on public response, but did not choose to do so.

The end of CSI was planned for at least a month before the May 15 closing. People who worked there were requested not to say anything to the public until the final week, but we knew about it earlier. The timing was not related to the IRS ruling.

According to statistics at SLNameWatch.com, about 200,000 CSI avatars were created; just under 197,000 currently exist, and some accounts were surely canceled by their creators or by Linden Lab. That's about half a month's worth at the current rate of entry. An unknown number of additional avatars came into Second Life because of CSI, but through paths other than the CSI portal.

Yes, we miss it too.
