I've noticed a lot of threads discussing the pros/cons of the Friends function. Particularly the effect (or lack of!) of unclicking the box which shows your on-line status. (For those who have not read the posts - basically you can not rely on this to hide your status from friends). However, inevitably in these threads, people say - "anyway, there are other ways to determine peoples on-line status" I want to be in on the secret!! What are the "other ways" to determine if someone is on line?

One way would be, if you have joined the same group, to look who in that group is on line.

Send them an IM. If you don't get a "User is not online" response...they're online.

Check an avatar's profile. I'm pretty sure that if the "offer teleport" button is not grayed out, they are online.

Not true actually, if the offer teleport button is not greyed out it means they are on your friendslist The button is always greyed out for people who are not on your friendslist, unless you activate admin options.

Not quite. The tp button's grey for nonfriends IF "show online status only to my friends" is checked (the default setting). Uncheck that box, and you can offer anyone a TP. I *think*, if you use the above settings, that the tp button will be gray for anyone who's offline...but not 100% sure.

There are websites that list people's avatar keys
If you plug that into a scripted object with an online indicator ..
Bam, anyone you have the online key for you can tell if they are online.
