If you go to search > popular places, it shows the traffic for the various entries (eg Club Extreme 102836). How is this number arrived at? I assume it's a combination of visitors * length of stay, but does anyone know the exact formula?

From what I vaguely remember reading long ago.

One avatar on the land for 5 minutes counts as 1

IE:
One avatar on the land for 10 minutes counts as 2
Two avatars on the land for 5 minutes counts as 2

Hello. This is not meant to be rude but this topic has been discussed previously in other threads. Please use the search feature on the forums if you think this may be something, someone else has already asked. Please see:

Also in one of those, LL points to a very specific link in the knowledgebase, which is also a searchable tool.

Again, not mean to be rude but search is your friend. It prevents people from asking the same questions 20 times when it has already been answered 19 :)

The problem is that it's outdated information even though every Linden answer keeps referring to it.

It's 1 point, per avie, per minute with no minimum. Close a piece of land you own off and stay 1 minute and the next day your traffic will read 1. Stay 20 minutes and the next day it reads 20. Invite a friend and stay 30 minutes and it'll read 60 and it's entirely independant of how long you are online or how much time you spend anywhere.

My guess is that the dwell system was retired because it only makes sense in a world where alts are hard to get. With open sign-ups it would be too easy to make 100 alts, log them each on for 5 minutes a day and you'd make the top spot in popular places and not have to resort to camping.
