Hello
So the Fourth of July, an American holiday, is this weekend. (Also known as Independence Day.) Well, that announcement isn't the reason for my post.
I have a park and I'd like to include things people can interact with if they visit. Ideally, fireworks.
I have some textures, does anyone know how to make the fireworks themselves, and if they are okay to use in SL? Just some brief particle effects, basically. I could buy them, too, but I still need to know to what extent they are legal to use in SL (I grew up with them being illegal to use privately in RL). And I also would prefer to make them so visitors can take a copy.
Also, any ideas what people would like to see if they visited? Thanks in advance.

HI Melita! A fireworks display is a great idea! There's actually a lot of fireworks happening all over SL. I've seen some really well done shows.....and no it's not illegal in SL LOL I grew up in Massachusettes where fireworks were also illegal for personal use.....but now I live in the South, and they are very very legal down here....so this weekend should be interesting~! As for making them.....I'm not sure precisely how....but I know a little about making particle effects so I'd imagine it's just a matter of messing with the scripts until you get the desired 'effect'. You don't necessarily need textures.....the standard particle effects can be pretty cool.....But, you're best bet is to just have fun experimenting! There used to be a particle learning center....I got some basic instructions I can pass on to you next time I log in.......someone else may have more info on the learning center.....it was a really great place to learn the basics of particle scripting.

Hi Melita! I did a quick search on the SL website for "fireworks"...you might want to take a look at a few of these places: http://search.secondlife.com/search.php?s=All_Web&q=fireworks&submit=GoAlso...there's an SL resident, Marianne McCann, who puts on a great fireworks display on Saturday nights (during the summer). Maybe look her up, and ask her a few questions?

Oh hai! You can certainly use, make, and distribute fireworks in SL. And this week, I may be moving my show a bit in order to accommodate RL fireworks in my life.

We'll be doing fireworks tomorrow at the club where I'm going to be working. (I don't know if it's okay to name it here, but if anyone wants to show up tomorrow between 11-1 SL and offer moral support - and more important, see the fireworks - just drop me a line.)
Also, I see it's already been mentioned, but Marianne's fireworks show is definitely worth stopping by for.
I have no idea where in SL to buy fireworks or how to make them, but they are definitely legal. The only suggestion I would have is to make whatever actually goes up and sets off the particle effect temp or self-deleting so you don't accidentally litter someone else's land.

Okay, I'll be doing my big 4th of July show at 4:00 p.m. SLT at Livingtree. I moved it up 4 hours to accommodate me seeing RL ones. It'll be back to 8:00 p.m. SLT next weekend, July 11th.
For those who are interested, you may wanna come a bit early: the sim does fill fast on fireworks nights.

Thanks all - and I'm glad to see others publicising their own fireworks. The more the merrier, right?
I bought some things, still trying to get a good show going that doesn't send stuff into neighboring parcels (or try to - I get decline notices). Problem is I don't know which ones I'm seeing vs. what they are called in the menu. Trying by trial/error to figure that out. I think I'm fairly safe with fountains and smokes but those are fairly boring, too.
So anyone know of a good system that doesn't require you to be on site all the time - I want to set these up to go off every hour or so...obviously I can't be on 24 hours a day.
I also had an idea of offering a note card of other places to go in SL to see fireworks and such. So how about this:
What if we each put a note card that people could take on our sims, a note card that listed each other's shows too? I will prep a note card later tonight, of shows that you all have listed. If you want to know where mine is it's called Patriot Park. You can find it in Search.
So far there are some freebies and a fireworks show about every half hour to an hour - and a free outdoor movie stream. (They are legal/royalty free.) Then, like always, food/drink stands.
A bit late for lunch. Pardon if this post is a bit rambly. LOL
Still open to ideas/shops especially the non HUD ones. A lot of the shops have only HUD versions. Also prefer the sparkly ones as opposed to rockets or things that will zoom into other parcels.
Thanks for your help & good luck with your own shows.

I've set out some free fireworks multilaunchers on the upper level of my texture shop ("Lathe of Eber" that are derived from a class I took. Nice and loud They work either on touch or on "go" being said on channel 1, so you can automate them to go off every hour if you like ... I set out a simple timed controller next to the fireworks for you to tear apart, I have it set to fire off every 15 minutes.

Oh thanks Soen! I'm hanging here for another few since my 'event' was listed as lasting 30 minutes. But then I will def. come snag those! Oh my gosh the guests I just had. It was fabulous. LOL They roleplayed British soldiers "we are here for our tea and our back taxes!" I'm still smiling. LOL (gave them a cuppa and a credit card)
