Covering Default Avatar Hair

I have the City Chic female avatar. I can remove the hair attachments and I'm left with very short, dark hair and that's fine.

But when I wear any of the bald wigs that come with hairstyles, it doesn't cover my default hair. The hair isn't hidden (as I'd expect). So when I put on a wig over the baldie, a bit of my bangs show through on the forehead. I know the baldie is on because I see "worn" in inventory and in Edit Appearance, Hair it is labelled the bald wig.

I also tried but can't get rid of the bangs on the default hair when editing it.

Any suggestions to try? I'm new to hairstyling.

Thanks.

Is it possible your head size is quite large? if you can copy your shape, try making a copy and then messing with the head size.. Some makers will quote the head size they use as standard for their hair. Also, if you can copy the hair, make a copy and try stretching it or moving it slightly. Best to do this on a posing stand so your avatar keeps still while you tweak it.

You could try contacting the maker and finding out what their standard size is, and most creators will help if you are having trouble with their products. The first hair I bought from Calla didn't fit right on my shape and i got one on one help from the owner making it fit perfectly.

good luck

Hey June, I've seen this a few times with bald caps I've made that I've given away. For some reason they become shaped and shaded. Here's what you do:

-Create a new hair, call it baldcap or something.

-Wear it and take off your prim hair.

-Edit Appearance

-Go into the Hair settings.

-Set every variable to "0"

-Save it.

You will now have a bald cap you can wear with any of your prim hairs. If you share it with someone it might "grow" so keep it for yourself.

If you want to get tricky, and you have photoshop or the like, you can create a 32bit 64x64 tga image, and set the background color to transparent, then upload that and use it as your hair texture.

If the hair is painted on the skin, you'll need a different skin to get rid of it.

Yep, and if you are truly wearing bald caps and still seeing hair, then the odds are really high that it is actually a Skin issue.

Thanks for your replies! Looks like I have a couple of thing to try, and regarding a new skin, yeah , I was thinking I would have to do that. Maybe that is not a bad thing because there is one other feature of this default avatar body that I don't like.

Thanks.

Do you know where to find some good, free skins?

Well, I'm going to tell you a few anyway :p

Sarah Nerd's Freebie Paradise
Free Dove
And I *think* Sin Skin has a 1$ version they have out, but I could be wrong

The Sin Skins 1L version is for people under 30 days old. Fleur also has a package for under 30, that one being 0L (as do other places have under 30 items). Unfortunately I see a date of March 2008.

It is painted on the City Chic female. I started with one of those, and it took me FOREVER to figure out that bald bases wouldn't fix the problem (or I couldn;t get them too) and I needed a new skin.

Good luck June!

Also Eloh Eliot's, here:

Or, if you have a few Photoshop skills, you can download her PSDs and build your own.

I think the Free Style dollar hunt is still going, thru today or tomorrow, maybe thru Sunday. You can pick up 5 good skins in the Free Speerit store by just finding the dollars -- and they are decent skins.

LOL. Yes I see that now.

I wound up using a free skin from my inventory to address the hair problem.

Thanks all for the shopping ideas.

Also, you can texture the default av hair (the non-prim stuff) with a fully alpha texture to hide any bits that still peek out. This can still cause problems if it overlaps with any bits of prim hair that also have alpha in their textures.
