Hi all, I've been here twice b4 and both times you solved my problems spectacularly!!!
I am still new, but this is stumping a little more seasoned person - my girlfriend. Kinda tough to describe, so bare with me. She cannot wear certain Skirts. If she/I buy her Outfits, and the entire Outfit (skirt portion only in question here) comes as a BOX = No Problem. IF the Outfit has individually listed sections in its Folder (Top, Acessories, etc, and in particular the Skirt/lower part of the Dress) we have problems. We have come to realize that if we see a "pink skirt symbol" or individually listed Skirt/Lower dress part in the Folder of what we want to buy, she can not wear it. When she tries to put on the entire Outfit, the skirt part will eventually disappear. Usually rather quickly, but sometimes not for several minutes. As much as I love this at home, it is rather embarassing in public and so we shun some rather cute Outfits b/c of this problem. Anyone heard of this? Have any suggestions? I'll link this to her so she can answer any questions. Thanks for your help and I am learning to love this place. Rhys

See (among others)... a known bug in the standard release that seems to have been fixed in the last couple Release Candidate viewers.

You probably have the main viewer vers. 1.19.1.4 Linden Lab also release 'test viewers' which you can download from the download page, you will see Release Candidate 1.20 at the bottom of this page.

The release candidate viewer, often just called RC, is the public beta test for the next official viewer. At the bottom of the download page ( http://secondlife.com/support/downloads.php) are some links to "Test viewers". The release candidates give you the latest bug fixes and features, but be aware that they are test viewers. That means some of the features may not work as intended, and new bugs may have been introduced. You can have the official and the release candidate both installed, and choose between the two as you please, but you cannot have several different versions of the release candidate; you're always forced to use the latest of that. (Since there wouldn't, after all, be any point in testing an obsolete version, nevermind that some versions of the RC may work better than others). The current RC 1.20.12 has been a long time in the making, and is, in my experience, running really well. It was actually scheduled for official release in June, but LL decided to hold it back to work on the user interface. The RC 1.20.12 has the new, blue "Dazzle" look, which some people hate with a vengeance, and LL is currently putting some effort in letting you choose between the new and the old look before releasing the 1.20 as the official viewer.

RCs have really become the main viewer. It's been over three months since 1.19.1 was released and it has too many bugs of its own to really be any different from most of the RCs.
Do always install the lastest main viewer so you have it around anyway, but just go along with the RCs. If a new RC build has a bug you really can't live it, go back an RC build (just change the -channel in the shortcut) or live with the outdated main viewer until it's fixed.

They did something major in the 1.20RC which left it really unstable for me until around version 6, but after that, it's been running well, and I've been using that exclusively. It has a lot of nice touches and fixes, and I'd think a lot of people at LL are really itching to get that out to people.
And yes, as Kitty points out, you *can* actually force the use of an older RC, by fiddling with that "channel" command. -It's just that we see so many complaints about "I was forced to upgrade before I could log in; wasn't that supposed to not be the case?" once people start using the RCs that I thought I'd preempt that question.

I have this problem when wearing some shirts. I wear them and the disappear. If I put another one on, the original one shows up briefly and is replaced.
I found if I wear the disappearing shirt and change my appearance the shirt shows up. I then edit the shirt in change appearance mode, changing a sleeve or something 1 unit. Then save and close and the shirt stays on. It will show up again when taken off and worn again too.
I know I had this problem with the 1.20-11 RC viewer. I don't know if it happens in 1.20-12.

Of course, people using viewers prior to the bug fixed RC may still see her without a skirt, so undergarments are a good idea.

From: Ann Launay Of course, people using viewers prior to the bug fixed RC may still see her without a skirt, so undergarments are a good idea. As far as I know the bug was due to a bug in the texture baking, not in the rendering so if a mesh skirt looks fine to you it should look fine to everyone else as well . Not that wearing underwear/glitchpants under mesh skirts isn't a good suggestion in general .
