Bots on my land?

A few weeks ago, I listed my land in Places with keywords like "commune" and "homeless". Within a day or two, I started seeing these AVs popping up. They always look exactly the same: newb shape and hair, totally gray with creepy white eyes. They never say anything when I talk to them and always poof away within a minute or so. Some have rezz dates of that day, but some a month or two ago. Could these be bots of some kind?  |

I have seen them in increasing numbers at the Hangout among other places.

Sadly I seem to be getting more of these bots than real people. Anyone know how/why they're showing up?

Maybe they are campbots and your keywords trigger off their searches for camping stations.

I happened to be able to click on a profile of one once; it said it was a search bot? Taking in data for whatever reason for the free search page? Not sure what data my sim has nor why I wanted it on the search page….. Ive spotted a few of them popping in now and then.

From: Phoebe Avro I used to get them on my land, they are good for target practice!!! Yes! Set the land to damage and fire away! I haven't noticed it as much with my shop.. but that's fine by me

I have also been invaded by bots in the last few days. Exactly as you describe. They often don;t stay long enough to be picked up by my radar. What's especially disturbing is that they seem to always land within a few meters of me. Like they are not scanning my island, but they are scanning me. Am I just paranoid or what? What are these bots after? I've logged a bunch of them and a number of them are not even listed in search. Examples:

[2008/04/26 5:09] Entering chat range: ferrari7 Odriscoll (15m) wow, thats exactly waht has happened to me in the last 12 hours... my list has 31 names on it since 2:30pm slt yesterday.. and thats on my home, which has no key words etc...... no idea where theyre cooming from... i was banning them all.. then all of a sudden they dont show on search.... guess the person controlling them either pulled them or got banned.
