OK. . .first this Flickr picture. . . http://www.flickr.com/photos/walkering/973712865/Which shows SL running on a Nokia N800 hand held Internet Tablet. I know all about Photoshop manipulations, (ask me about my sister in law and the topless bikini model some time.) BUT. . .well, the N800 IS a Linux device so. . .one wonders. Anyone know anything about this?

It doesnt actually 'show sl running' its a screen shot. In any event, that tablet has the wrong OS to run SL.. so answer is NO. Don't believe all you see LOL..

SL runs perfectly fine on debian linux for me. But i agree, it probably isn't actually running on the n800. Looks like its running on the computer behind it and just throwing up a copy of the window on the n800.

Reading ????? ARE YOU CRAZY i just look at photos and make wild assumptions then make silly posts! HOW DARE YOU SUGGEST WE READ http://www.3pointd.com/20070717/second-life-running-on-nokia-n800/Check out the mobile wizardry of Second Life resident Wrestling Hulka, who has a limited version of the virtual world running on the Nokia n800. [Via Metaversed, from whom I’ve stolen the pic above.] Cool stuff. Recall there was another mobile client for Second Life that was developed earlier in the year. 3pointD hears that others may be working on similar apps — although I’m not sure I need an “immersive” experience on my mobile device. What I definitely would like, however, is the ability to interact with people who are in the virtual world via my phone and functions like instant messaging, my virtual currency account, etc. That’s far more useful, but is apparently less sexy and more difficult, since I don’t hear as much about people developing these kinds of functions. We can only hope. http://www.3pointd.com/20070209/comverse-puts-second-life-on-mobile-phones/

I know all about Photoshop manipulations, ... I looked at the image, and it would be easy to do, no photoshop required. What caught my attention was the Sl window on the computer screen was the same shape as the N800. Then I looked up the N800 specs... Hmmm.. built in camera. So that image could be as easy as taking a picture of the computer screen.

"Wrestling Hulka on July 19th, 2007, at 11:24 am: @Jorge, yes that’s exactly what I did. I sent a clarification to Nick Wilson - The current software limitations wouldn’t allow you to run even a hacked version of Second Life on the Nokia N800. I’m using a VNC viewer to view my desktop then adjusting the window so I can see into SL. It has the same effect as having it loaded on your nokia n800. I could literally log in from any hotspot and use Second Life on my device - which is what I”m pumped about " - http://www.3pointd.com/20070717/second-life-running-on-nokia-n800/This is a YouTube Video ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7mAwJgQaN4) of a similar program that can do allow you to control your avatar using a smartphone.

Why would someone want to do this? Just because?

From: AWM Mars Why would someone want to do this? Just because? Because of the "thrill" of squishing down a 19-20" monitor sized world into a 2" screen with all that detail now smaller than the screen can show.
