Something that used to happen occasionally is now happening VERY often on my laptop. When I change clothes, although the change in system texture layers is visible to me, it is NOT visible to surrounding avatars. Attachments change just fine. I re-opened a Jira on this ( https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-14463 ), but there's been no activity on it, so I'm wondering, is anyone else seeing this? Apologies if I missed a huge thread somewhere.

And yes, when this has happened I've rebaked multiply, gone into Appearance, changed sims (it's happened in a variety of sims), relogged, cleared cache, REBOOTED and no change. I've been seeing this on a SnowGlobe client, and have had it clear up sometimes when I fell back to an ancient pre-Windlight client. Generally, though, I just give up and try it another day.

Anybody else seeing this?

I have been using Snowglobe since before it was on the general download page, but have definitely not had that issue at all. The only issue I really have is random client shutdown - some sort of crash that the crash logger does not even catch.

Are you seeing this in the regular client and Snowglobe?

If it's just Snowglobe, stop using it. It's a mess. The only thing it has going for it is the super fast map drawing. Otherwise, it's a bug infested crashfest.

I see it on Snowglobe. This is an old laptop, and the 1.22 client will not run on it at all ... crashes within a minute. Same thing with 1.23. Snowglobe has been working very well, and I agree it's odd, I see nothing in the release notes to explain why it works. However, I don't read sldev - perhaps that would help.

Other than Snowglobe, the only clients that work on this machine are very old third party ones.

They fixed a couple of random crashes in the 1.03 build, released July 21? Maybe try that, if you haven't already ...

Not if it is going to give me your strange system clothing issue -- I think I would rather have maybe a crash a night instead.

An IM in the SL Mentors group chat read as follows:

From: someone
quick question. for some reason, i keep switching skins, i can see the skin i've tried on, but everyone else is still seeing me wearing a demo. they've relogged, cleared cache, restarted computer everything, and as have i. and still the same problem. i was wondering if anyone has experienced this issue before and how did you fix it? please and thanks.

Sounded similar to this thread's problem to me.

I am on t he verge of giving up on SL completely because my avatar clothing screws up constantly. I take off a piece of clothing and that part of my avatar goes black. If I take off everything, my face disappears instead of turning solid black. Once this occurs, it's impossible to wear ANYTHING on the avatar.

After much checking of hardware (3.0 MHz dual core with 2GB RAM), drivers (got the very latest for my 8800 GTS 640 MB), OS (I use XP SP3) etc., all the usual suspects, I finally hit on a temporary solution. If I cleared all the caches, uninstalled the software, manually erased everything still left on the machine (especially all the info in Docuemtns and Settings), completely reinstalled the client AND created a new account. When I did all that, everything works and I could put clothing on my new avatar. Until I took something off... then blammo, it turns black again.

I should mention this doesn't happen for LL default clothing items, but rather other clothing items (gifts from friends, etc.). However, once the avatar becomes "contaminated" with "the blackness" not even LL clothing will work on it.

In checking through PJIRA, it appears there is an outstanding bug about this, and rebaking sometimes fixes it. I tried rebaking, but it had no effect.

Is there some secret cure to this bug I don't know about?

Rion, your problem doesn't sound like the one this thread was started about. It might be better to start a separate thread for your problem.

That said,

what video driver are you using? Did you get it from Microsoft or from the nVidia website?

You say the problem doesn't happen with system clothing but with clothes you got from friends. What about the clothing items you have in your Library Clothing folders? What about clothes you get from other sources? Is it for all clothes other than what is in your inventory?

What version of SL are you using? (The version number, not words "the latest" or similar ambigous phrase.)
