Inworld Searches: PG or Mature?

I understand that changes will be happening soon but as of now:

I maintain a PG sim (private estate) for my business. My product items are PG but I'm thinking of switching the sim to Mature as individual parcels cannot be set differently than the entire sim setting.

I'm curious to know what percentage of residents check the "Include Mature Content" boxes for their in-world searches.

There is a checkbox for:

1. All Search (web-based search).
2. Classifieds.
3. Events.
4. Places.
5. Groups (automatically checked for Mature).

I voted "some" because I check the mature box sometimes - generally only when I'm looking for something that is itself an adult item/place. Which isn't often.

I have mature checked all the time, even when I am not looking for "Mature" items/places. I do that because:

a) I like to see all my options

and

b) I don't want to penalize someone who tries to follow the rules and play it conservative by omitting their results. (For example, they mark things like skins or lingerie mature, or they sell a few sex related items in a store full of PG and M items and flag as Mature.)

Personally, I would stay PG unless you have some compelling need like a skin shop where nudity will be on public display.

Other than that, there is no reason to label your land Mature.

The upside is that you show up in searches no matter what boxes are checked.

I have mature checked just to see everything. If an otherwise mature sim happens to have a great outfit or gadget that I want I'll get it -- unless they annoy me in some way.

Besides, you don't get much more mature than me at least in terms of physical age, and I don't really understand what is so dad blasted horrible about knowing the human race is preoccupied with sex . I mean - good grief, when oh when is this going to stop shocking people?

I know the grid is changing sometime soon and I'm fine with all that. I just don't understand why currently people who are somehow shocked or uncomfortable with mature themes should be protected from it, when no one is concerned about protecting me from seeing other things I don't care to see -- like slavery, or country music, or RL corporate marketing - or fill in the blank.

I am not angry - this is just one aspect of the human race I simply don't understand.

[Edit: Sorry for the side rant. Back on topic - yes, if your sim is mature I would still see it.]

I leave mature checked so I don't miss anything.

Unless you're planning on selling mature items there's no advantage to you of switching your estate to mature, PG items appear in the mature search.

To me it does not matter. When I use search, I always select mature, in order not to overlook anything.

I play around with diff viewers and versions and one of the things I always make sure i do upon a new install is go and check all the boxes for mature content. I prefer not to miss anything in my searches.

But I do remember that it was months after I first joined SL before I realized that there were check boxes for mature content. And then it took me a long while to get in the habit of always checking those boxes.

I appreciate all the votes and responses so far. :-)

I am an adult, and not readily offended. I don't restrict my searches at all.

what about those who just do not bother to use the search.

I usually only use search to search a specific store name (to get to it if I do not have a lm) or a specific person's name

I gave up using search to find anything other than those 2 things

if I use search, mature stays checked just because it returns all options and there are circumstances where pg vendors would be on mature land and I'd rather not miss anything that might be worthwhile.

if you're looking to M just to avoid having teens in the mix, best of luck to you. it makes sense for questionable content, although beware of whatever verification scheme biting into your customer base.

I don't like my search results to be censored. I am an adult and I can sift through the noise to find what I'm looking for without being "protected".

I usually search xstreet where only the really mature stuff gets labelled adult (Xstreet is generally more comfortable, and you don't need to login). Using the inworld search you end up missing things if you don't check mature because the labelling there is not effective at all. I was once looking to buy a high quality sculpted bed (not a scripted sex bed, just an effing bed) and even with mature de-checked I was almost unable to find one.

From my perspective i dont really sell anything id consider adult only or mature but i have my SIM set to mature simply because the idea of (PG) doesn't really suit my tastes and i'd rather myself and anyone else visiting felt they could have the freedom to be whatever they wish. Do as you will and harm none etc

Mature always on. Nothing I can see in SL will offend me much. Until the RL advertising shows up anyway.

Mature always on. I never filter, screen, or block my internet usage. I am not offended. I still consider things "ick" once in a while, but, it's very difficult to cross my line. (^_^)

That said, "Mature Content" is always checked just as much as "Safe Search" is always unchecked. (^_^)y

my exception to mature on always:
kid av items or locations, because that filters out chaff from the results, especially if I'm looking for a specific named item/place that doesn't include the word child.
