Greetings, all. Forgive my quick hijack of the RA forum, as this is not actually a question, and it has nothing to do with SL. Feel free to ignore it if you don't feel it's relevant or important to you.

My phone's been ringing pretty steadily with calls from people wanting to make sure I was still alive after last night's plane crash. I figured I should post in every public outlet I can, in case anyone's concerned. Yes, I'm still here. The house that was hit wasn't mine, but it was pretty darned close, less than a mile away.

The mood around town today can only be described as eery. I think just about everyone's got that "It could have been me" feeling, on top of concern we all for the 50 families who lost someone to the crash. The Buffalo area isn't so much a city and a collection of suburbs, as it is one big small town, if that makes sense.

We've already received news that one of the passengers was the uncle one of our friends. I'm sure we'll be hearing about more acquaintances who were affected, in the coming days.

practically a neighbor. My sis used to live in that town. Glad you are ok, sucks for the people involved tho. I think they said one was a 911 widow.

Yeah, one was a widow and advocate for 9/11 victims and families. Glad to hear you're alright, Chosen, didn't know you were from my parts.

Besides the obvious inconvenience an untimely demise would have caused you, this forum would have lost a valuable asset, so it all worked out in the end I'd say. :)

Wow. Not knowing you personally I had no idea you were in the "line of fire" as it were. Sorry to hear about your close call, and of course I'm very glad everything turned out all right.

Didn't know you lived near there, but very grateful that you're still alive.

Yes, we here in the Forums would have been much poorer had you left--not to mention all the other people in your life, of course.

What an awful thing to have happen.

(here's hoping that something is learned that could prevent future crashes.)

OK, I appreciate the serious and horrifying implications of what happened, but this post just made me spit Pepsi all over my monitor. Thanks for the giggle Milla.

Happy you are fine Chosen, but it is still a terrible event, so short after the other crash in the river.

SL and RL are so closely linked. Good and bad. Even from the other end of the world :)

Happy Valentines day!

Wow.....I'm glad to hear you're ok Chosen.....I can only imagine how profound an impact this has had to your community. My heart goes out to all of you.....and most especially to those who lost loved ones. It's so easy to forget just how fragile our lives are....and how quickly our world can be permanantly altered. :(

Gosh I'm glad you are okay Chosen. That being said I'm very sorry about those folks who weren't so lucky.

Another lesson to appreciate every day we have.

Thanks for all the kind words, guys. We've heard about a few more aquaintances who were directly affected, like former students who had family members on board. No one really close, but still, it's creepy.

They say all roads lead to Buffalo. Well, apparently so do all disasters. Remember Oklahoma City? Guess where Timothy MvVeigh is from. Want to talk 9/11? Yes, we had an Al Qaeda cell right here, the so called Lackawana Six. And let's not forget OJ. Yup, he was a Buffalo Bill. The house he lived in was right down the street from where my parents used to live, actually. Lorena Bobbitt? Yeah, that happened here too. The Love Canal, Ralph Buckey Phillips, that kid who fell over the falls in Superman II, the list goes on and on. Now we get a plane crash. I'm betting serious money that when the Martians land and start devastating the countryside, we'll find out that they visited Buffalo first, and got offended by the amount of blue cheese we eat or something.

Oh well, at least we have good chicken wings.

What a terrible tragedy for so many people. I didn't know that you lived there, but it's good to hear that you're ok, Chosen.

I myself live in a suburb of Buffalo..born and raised and I have to say that even our chicken wings are starting to suck..seriously. Where the hell is Duffs? Anyway..I am happy to hear that you are okay, even thou I don't know you.

Rooties Bleu cheese on Vinces pizza rocks!! It makes up for our lack of decent wings.

Glad to hear you weren't one of the chosen few in this case.

I know that eery feeling. Long ago a NW flight crashed on takeoff in Detroit near a freeway I took to work every day, only one small girl surviving. Hearing it on the news, I reacted more or less the same as I would for any crash: concerned and sympatheitc, but not personally involved. However, when I drove by the site, I got an unexpectedly emotional reaction, and did so for quite some time every time I passed.

I guess that's what they mean when they say "hits home".

Not quite as literally as in this terrible case, though. Poor people!

Considering how long Chosen has been in, no, it's not surprising. Considering he has shared his wisdom, insights and skills many times with SL residents, no, it's not surprising.
