Best puzzle/rpg/Uru/Myst type places that still exist?

Hey,

I am working developing on a pretty involved RPG sort of enviornment, and was wondering what still exists out there right now anyway?

I am aiming my own build for a Myst/puzzle sort of inspiration, but so much comes and goes in SL. You would think with the collapse of The real Myst multi-player verse that there would be more integrated into SL, but so far I can't seem to find much.

And no, I am not going for anything directly taken from Myst, mostly just the same feel, of finding clues and solving puzzles, perhaps a bit of overuse of steampunk will be as close as I get to the actual games.

The main one that springs to mind immediately is Numbakulla - The Pot Healer Adventure. Not inworld right now, so I haven't got a link, but search should pull it up. It's not steampunk, but it has the same set of features you're talking about.

Let us know if you do get something up and running; I love those types of games! :)

I'm not sure I'd call it 'best' but I ended up with two openspaces extra, and am working on a sort of place called "Mondserrat" (it's two regions) - a tropical isle full of that sort of thing. A great place for Victorian explorers to be... Victorian explorers! Bring your perseverance and dauntless nature :)

No fly, full of danger, mystery in the jungle, puzzles and adventure - and totally free. The idea is to give a small group of friends a laughing good time for an evening.

If anyone has ever seen the magic of Denver Hax, who orchestrated the end of Caledon's first colony in a spectacular symphony of airborne magma, smoke and volcanic bombs, you'll appreciate this place.

It's not open yet, but will open in a week or two, maybe less, and may not stick around too long (a month?) Search Mondserrat on the map for a preview of the terrain (it's a play on the real life "Montserrat";).

well developing that is no easy task, i know that becaus ei have been doing so myself. space colony necronom VI is the name and if you look beyond the adult theme of my place you will discover a very deeply rooted and by now relatively big puzzle filled mystlike epxloration game set on a spacestation. but well while im slowly getting hwere i want to get, it will still take a while to bring it to the minimum level of content i consider necessary.

Wonderful to hear that someone is working on a Myst/Uru type project. Really sad day when the City went down.

Well I posted this in a few forums, this is what I came up with as of Jan 2nd 2009, for existing URU/Myst inspired places. I still have a hard time fighting the urge to rebuild the whole of Bevin, but we shall see.

Grins... yeah kinda!

The dreaded mysterious isle of Mondserrat is open now, for those interested!

9 Jan 09: There is a deep rumbling boom that shakes the entire grid, a darkening of the sky, and then... reception of the following signal from an unidentified ship: ... - - - ... over and over, nothing else.

Dare you investigate?

* * * * *

It's designed to be a not-hard, but not-trivially-easy good time for an individual or group of friends for about... maybe an hour or two across the two openspace regions Mondserrat Verdis and Mondserrat Volcanis. Turn up draw distance really high, and turn on music for the best experience.

Main prizes are "I Survived Mondserrat" seals, if you can find them, much like the Founder's seals you see around Caledon which are granted only to those who were in our regions from their founding. Our traditional Founder's Seals are commonly found next to pub doors, on residential gate stonework or outside a shop - hard to be around the region long without seeing some. Mondserrat's are the first winnable by discovery, and hidden fairly well - but this is the first (and probably last) chance for anyone outside the country to get anything like it.

First hint: One region is accessible, the other can only be walked into from the first.

Second hint: Yes you are likely to die here if you aren't cautious, but just tp back.

Third hint: Mind the other players and their locations, and motives. Yes, those are cannons across the bay overlooking the beach.

Fourth hint: Volcanic eruptions are dangerous to *everyone* - and can range from minor to ridiculously, humongously, insanely huge. There's just no telling, is there?

A warning: Use of shields will lag the region to the point it freezes everyone, so don't bother or you'll just hang there waiting for about a minute and a half. Faster to die and come back - your choice, you'll probably have to anyway before the region recovers if you don't listen. Defeating 'no fly' will pretty much assure that you won't 'get' the way things work for people actively playing, and the people that fly around don't find much - or a lot more slowly than they would have. There are lots of scripts that trigger things and you won't trigger them easily by flying.

All 110% free throughout, and brought to you by the citizens of our fair micronation - do enjoy, it's going to be available for a few weeks or so.
