If they did it was funny for the first five minutes. There is a rather rude person (Sorry, she just isn't polite!) who sends me endless requests to join her group and to teleport to whatever event she is DJing. Actually, I know a couple of such lost causes. I've complained to one. The other I just ignored half the time and sometimes, I do go to her club.
It's a dark club with lots of colored lights and sometimes I can smell the peanut shells and stale cigarette smoke in the place. I know it's my imagination. There is a dance ball. Last Friday I pressed the dance ball and the dance had me dancing on my head. This happened to two other avies. I've seen this before, but then my avi and the other two did not turn right side up. We stayed on our heads for five minutes straight spinning around. As I said, for a while this was funny for those five minutes after that, I started to wonder.
I cliked Stop all Animations. My avi stayed on her head. She did not dance any more. She did not spin. In fact her poor head was stuck through the slats of the dance floor. I tried to get her to turn rightside up by having her move, fly, and even teleport. Nothing worked. I finally logged out and logged in again. She was none the worse for wear.
I know the SL server can act weird? Can someone also monkey with dance animations so as to humiliate an avi? I did not return to this club the rest of the day. I said I needed a break when I got numerous teleport requests. Was the club owner just humiliating three avis for fun?
I feel a bit boggled at all this. I'll go back to the club eventually. After all, my avi suffered no permanent damage. As for the lost causes and their endless invitations and IM's, they are another problem. I consider an AR a bit harsh. I really would like to settle that matter privately. I think there are lanaguage barrier and cultural problems involved in the issue as well. It was just pitiful to see myself with my head stuck in the dance floor. I was too embarassed even to photograph the incident.

It sounds as though that 'dance' was loaded into the dance ball, but was there no option to click the ball again and get another dance?
As to the constant invites and TP requests, TBH in your situation I would mute the person and not return to their club.

I don't think it was a prank, unless you consider LL as the joker. I've seen avs get stuck in animations before. World/Stop all animations works sometimes. An animation-stopper script in a prim ("Touch me to stop all animations" works better. And a re-log will almost always do the trick, especially if you clear cache before logging on again.

Sounds like you just froze up - this does happen in SL from time to time, especialy in crowded places, and the only way to get out of it is to exit and re-log.

My av currently stops dancing and just does a weird head movement like I've having some sort of semi-catatonic seizure. LOL.
Sounds like, as others have said, SL being borkatronic again.

Yeah, if you can smell the cigarettes and peanut shell, sounds like somebody has built a damned fine club. I am also willing to bet that the client froze. If something like this ever happens again, check your mini map - if it's got a red hue to it, you ain't really there. On the constant IMs and TP invites, screw that. If they're in your friends list take them out. That is rude beyond measure. From: Charly Muggins Sounds like my sort of club. Did you take drugs before you went in or just drink too much.

A sad day for me today
08-25-2008 13:24
It's true. I was at two sandboxes in SL today, and I was harassed to death as I was trying to build houses today. The latter occurrence, someone tried to scare me off.
And the sad thing? That person doesn't care. No matter how much I get begged to return to the area, I don't buy it one bit, as I feel so scared - and it's going to take me days to get over it.
There's nothing funny about harassment, IMO. And it's even worse if someone harasses another who has a disability (I am autistic, for those not in the know). Whoever the person tries to harass, he/she doesn't know who the person on the other end is in RL. Anyone he/she harasses, the person on the other end being harassed could actually be a law enforcement officer in RL.
I do not wish to leave SL at all. I do enjoy it so much, but I know full well that the sandboxes I was in today, I don't feel I can trust any of them or others any longer. And one sandbox that I use frequently was recently turned into a role-playing field. That should not be. There should be designated areas for role-playing, and sandboxes do not fit that description. People just take advantage of sandboxes and turn them into role-playing fields.
Lucky for me, if I feel like I'm going to be harassed, there is one way to solve the problem - I believe in the power of invisibility. And it was worth the lindens.

Sounds like something that happen to me once except for being on my head but I have had other situations similar. Worse was going to this club with a friend its one of those spanish gay clubs I got no clue why he wanted to me go I made mistake of accepting group invite from owner and friendship request boy was that mistake even after removing him I kept still getting things from him eventually I had to mute. Sand boxes are hell, but even having a private spot to build isn't always going to keep away jerks or obnoxious people at least if you own land via Linden Labs you can ban, eject, freezing though seems bit worthless cause it only last 30 seconds and you can shoot at trespassers on your own land but sadly you can't do that in sandbox without being ar'ed even if the person was asking for it.

Pyrite, I'm sorry you had a bad experience. There are several possible solutions. 1. Try a different sandbox. Maybe a private one, open only to group members. 2. Take a chance on the public boxes, but rez yourself a work platform high in the sky. You're less noticeable up there. 3. Buy or rent your own land. Not only can you build in peace, but you can leave your build out overnight. Invisible?

That wasn't harassment....that was an animation freeze. It happens....it's happened to me where my entire AV bent in half after clicking on a dance ball. There were tons of AV's using it and they were fine.....so obviously it was just a lag/freeze isue for me. No big deal. But the other thing is.....if you clicked on the dance ball...it's got a set number of dances loaded into it (or it might only have one) and if multiple avatars are using it....there isn't any way for the owner to adjust that script so it only messes up for one particular avatar...or three. It just doesn't work that way. On the other hand....the constant TP invites and group invites.... that's harassment and I'd just mute the person. If she's not a good friend (which I'm doubting youd have posted if she was)....then just mute mute mute. And don't stress the animation glitches....they happen...trust me, it isn't personal LOL

From: Lindal Kidd 1. Try a different sandbox. Maybe a private one, open only to group members. I am a member of a certain region, and the sandbox for that region is now a role-playing field with land mines. From: Lindal Kidd 2. Take a chance on the public boxes, but rez yourself a work platform high in the sky. You're less noticeable up there. That's a good idea. I'll try a different sandbox other than the two public sandboxes I experienced this afternoon. From: Lindal Kidd 3. Buy or rent your own land. Not only can you build in peace, but you can leave your build out overnight. Can't afford it. My RL dollars that I would spend in virtual currency can be used for RL items. From: Lindal Kidd Invisible? After reading option #2, I think I will pass on invisibility for the time being. Unless someone is stupid enough to fly up and do what happened to me while airborne. From: Milla Alexandre That wasn't harassment....that was an animation freeze. Well, I'm not too sure about it. The harassment I experienced today had nothing to do with disco balls or anything. Animation freezes, I understand; but someone dressing as a creature who creeps towards you is another story. And besides, Halloween is not for another 2 months.

From: Pyrite Sopwith ...someone dressing as a creature who creeps towards you is another story. And besides, Halloween is not for another 2 months. Is THAT all that happened? Look, rez a plywood cube. Sit on it. Right click the creepy creature and Mute it. There is nothing that he/she/it can do to you or say to you at that point. Thumb your nose at the man in the rubber monster suit and carry on building.

Um...I was responding to the original post here by Iyoba.....not the sandbox issue. I have never liked sandboxes for the very reason that anyone can do anything since they are designed to allow for building and usually scripting. I've never been to a sandbox where there wasn't some kind of harassment going on. Unfortunately.....that's just the nature of the SL beast. I figure it's either very young adults (maybe kids, but hopefully not on the main grid).....with somewhat stunted maturity.....or just people who have a general lack of connection to others. The reality is that not everyone views their SL experience the same way. For some it's a very serious social outlet as well as creative outlet. For others...it's a nonsensical joyride in the virtual and they simply don't take it seriously enough at all to ever understand why anyone could be offended by them. Folks like that figure others can just log off or teleport out if they're bothered. I tend to stay away from places with lots of people and especially sandboxes. It always seems to be a nightmare. I think the idea of using a platform and raising yourself way up above the masses is pretty good solution. But otherwise....it's really too much energy spent to take that kind of rude behavior by others so seriously, or personally. It's entirely likely that the people behind the harassment.....would be totally different IRL. I say this because my fiance.....who is 43 and extremely polite and friendly and quick to make friends..... has zero interest in SL....and if he did go in...he'd be a griefer because he just thinks the whole thing is silly and really does NOT relate to why anyone would use the virtual as a social venue. He's very much about living 'real' life....he's a doer. But...he loves PC 'games'.....games that have a purpose and usually big guns and all kinds of challenging levels. My point is.... there's an element of detachment for many in SL.....and they aren't really out to hurt anyone..... annoy, probably....but truly hurt or offend another person.....probably not.
