Question about my house.

So this might seem like a hilarious question to some but I genuinely don't know the answer myself so I thought I'd ask here.

If SL is having issues is it possible that part of my house could get deleted? Or would someone have to physically do it?

Lots of interesting things could have happened. I've heard of things just disappearing on their own before, but it's rare. It's also possible that the root prim on part of it was over a property line and got returned by the other land owner. Or it may be on group land with an autoreturn and set to the wrong group. Or accidentally deleted while you were trying to delete or take something else. And if anyone on your friends list has the ability to edit your stuff, they may have done it by accident too.

I don't know but along the lines of the previous person's reply, what if you were over prims and the landlord deleted something to put you back on limit? Or LL did? I don't know for sure, of course.

Well, certainly it's possible for it to appear to be deleted. I had that happen to me once during the last round of borkdoms here in SL a few months ago. I was having a heated argument with someone on my terrace, and when I turned around, half my house was gone. And not gone in the way it would have been if something had been accidentally deleted (which I've done). It really rattled me for a bit as I rifled through the possibilities, but in the end, I went to my fall back position for everything and relogged. When I came back, everything was back to normal.

So I think, in general, SL issues can do *anything*.

I experience frequently that part of our skybox (or other buildings i'm in for that matter) go poof on me. After some time of this happening I noticed it usually happened when I had the search window open but minimised, and when closing it the missing prims popped back. Quite peculiar.

Does anyone NOT remember the terrible update 1.13?

I was working in a club called The Pearl. We logged in after the mandatory update to find most of it just gone... Gone.... a couple of rugs, a picture, a sofa... nothing left except grass. a dozen escorts and a very depressed owner standing around amazed.

We had a Picnic on the lawn... and there was a feeling of "Lets do the show right here...."

One girl said...

"Well, we *are* outstanding in our field..."

It all came back after they fixed the viewer....

Search was borked for three weeks though, and the club trade never really recovered from that...

I had a tenant IM me the other day, frantic because the back half of the house was missing. When I got there, I saw it just fine. But for him, it was gone. I had him relog and when he got back, all was well.

Well the hilarious part is the house isn't on the edge of anything it's well withing my land limits, I still have over 1k of prims left fo I'm not over the prim limits... I tried relogging and restarting my pc to see if it was just missing still it never came back. I Tp'd someone in and the said it wasn't there either. I ended up having to re rez the whole house and put everything back in. Quite annoying.

I have, more than once, accidentally taken up part of my house. Have you checked your objects folder? That's where mine usually goes, and could be called "front half of house" or "object", depending on the house builder.

You weren't working on building anything else at the time, were you? I ask only because the other day I was in my castle skybox, working on something intricate on the floor. I'd linked the intricate something all together and took it into inventory...

...along with two thirds of the skybox. I'd managed to click the skybox floor as part of my linkset. It's easily done :o

Lock 'er up

After accidentally deleting the floor beneath my feet a few times, I discovered that you can lock your prims in place. It's an attribute on the Object tab of the Edit window - in the same place you set your prims to phantom or physical. You can still delete them or take them, but it warns you first.

It's a bit of a pain if you notice some little thing that needs fixing, because you have to unlock it, do your tweak and then remember to lock it again. But, at least I no longer find myself suddenly floor-less. :-)

I don't know if that helps the OP, but it might be useful to someone.

I accidentally lost the old Egotherapy centre when I changed my land from sole ownership to my fully-controlled group. I set the land to auto-return 1 minute and 1 minute later - disaster! But I can't blame the Lindens or SL for that one!!!

I have experienced this partial build missing on my house in the past also. This is a structure that had been rezzed for a long time, was locked and a friend could see all of it just fine. Relogging my viewer also brought it back to normal.
It is a viewer issue if a someone can see it just fine and you cannot.
