Charged L$100 for a freebie???

I'm less than a month into SL and was totally enjoying it until I noticed I was charged L$100 for a "freebie". I tried to go back to the store where I found the freebie but have no idea how to find it. I was in the "Wien" region, picking up freebies as I don't have alot of L$ :( Anyway, I clicked on the Resident Store Kit, thinking I may really get into SL and want to set up a store one day. I don't remember a notification that it was L$100 because when I get those, I cancel the purchase immediately unless I can afford it! I pulled up the properties on the item in my invo and it showed purchase price of L$0 yet I checked my transaction history and I was charged L$100! What can I do? I have the destination name but when I typed that on my map, there were no results. Is there a way to find the store and check the price? If it was L$100, I guess I'll have to eat the loss, but if not, I'd like to know! Thanks for your help!!! :)

Does the item Properties show the creator's name? If so, and he is the seller as well, you can search for his profile and perhaps it will have a link to the store.

The "destination" in your transactions history is who the money went to.

The purchase price shown in the properties of items in your inventory will revert to L$0 after you purchase the item (if it is no transfer) - it does not show you the price you originally paid for it. That is available in your transactions history, and at the point of sale.

If you're basing your assumption that this is a freebie on what you see in the item's properties, that's no indication of what you paid for it, and thus no indication that it was a freebie item.

Yeah, but I can't think of a situation where you buy anything without knowing how much you're paying. I'd like to know exactly what happened here.

It showed as a freebie when I purchased it, as far as I can remember, I don't think I would've paid L$100 for something I wasn't sure I would use!!! I would like to be able to go back and check the item to be sure ....anyway???? I'm not sure if it is no transfer or not, will go check that...how do u check point of sale???? Because, again, I would not have paid L$100 for it!!! HELLLLLLP :)

The "point of sale" is the time and place you purchased the item. Perhaps you could let us know the name of the item.. we might be able to track it down and figure out where you purchased it.

But if you paid $L100 for it, that would have shown up in the dialog confirming the sale.. perhaps you missed it? I know I get click-happy once and again :)

To be honest, I'd just let it go. $L100 is not a huge load of money. Unless you want to "solve the mystery".. which is always good fun.

LOL, well $L100 is alot to me as it only leaves me w/$L100...which can buy me alot of dollarbies ;) I'm new and don't have much :p Anyway, creator was Erid Linden, (I know), I can modify copy resell/give away, ...shows as Object in invo..."Resident store kit...from "Wien", Destination : anastasia Falta....I can't find it using the map, but then I don't really know what I'm doing :(

I don't remember it saying "Pay" , I believe it was advertised as a freebie...:(

oh.. That's been a library item forever.. Eric Linden is the creator. That's definitely a freebie.

Again, Destination : anastasia Falta <-- that's the person you paid for the item. Not the place you were at when you bought it.

I just gave you $L300.. it's just not worth fussing over with this person. In the future just be aware that some people are less than honest, and will scam you.

hey Zaphod any chance I can get some money too :) Good advice though, you really have to be careful in SL since while not everyone is out to get you it really does feel that way sometimes and paranoia is just common sense in SL.

if a dialog box came up for payment, ie select L$0, L$10, L$50, L$100, could it be possible the OP clicked the L$100 in error?

How the freebie places catch up new people is by setting up a wall of stuff priced at L$0, with a few sprinkled in that aren't. Enough of those ";(long list of contents...) Buy for L$0 from Whosie Whatsy?" and it's going to get easy to become numb to the dialog. Especially if there are FREE!!!@! signs plastered all over the place. They sell from prims instead of vendors, so there isn't that "hey wait this is different!" to snap the freebie hunter out of that trance.

So yeah, pay attention to those :o

Or if the vendor script was too simplistic, maybe the op had 100 in the text field from some other transaction, and the vendor just took what it was given.

Something to watch, not all vendors return mis-matched amounts and some happily take more.

Very true - this has actually caught me a few times when I have been in too big of a hurry and not watched those buy boxes carefully enough. Luckily, those few times, the prices were not horrid and I actually wanted the stuff.

Yes,

I accidentally bought a full priced skin before after too long shopping through $1 Demos.

After a while your eyes just glaze over the pop-ups.

$3000L lesson to not do too much Demo comparing in one day, lol.
