It just occured to me it would be sort of consistent with the idea of search to have an Inventory tab on the search dialog.
Create a web page for every item with the name, description, creator, date acquired, etc., and use Google search on your inventory.

the search app is accessable from the web, how would it determine whose inventory to search?

From: Winter Ventura the search app is accessable from the web, how would it determine whose inventory to search? Here we have an example of someone throwing their own thread off course right in the initial post. The idea that I started with was just to have an Inventory tab in the search dialog, because searching is a primary part of what you do with your inventory. That wasn't good enough, though, no, I had to go have an extra thought about using the google search to jazz things up, which is really a separate and unrelated idea. I suppose one would make the google augmented inventory available only to someone logged in to the Second Life site, the same way that account information is only visible to people logged into secondlife.com. I'm bored. I don't have anything to do except for useful stuff.

well, we've seen how good an idea it is when Linden Lab combines unrelated features into one window.... The Communicate window. Personally, the inventory window is in no way broken on it's own... I don't see the need to fix it... and frankly, even if it did need fixing, I'm not surse I'd trust Linden Lab with the work. Additionally the issue of the "inventory window specific menus" (File, Create, Sort)... you'd just end up with a "less useful" inventory window, and then you KNOW that some Linden would think it was a great idea to remove the ACTUAL inventory floater.
