Serious Music Problem

Can anyone help me? My music is seriously distorted. It also doubles and plays behind the music on others computers. I have written to support and they were unable to help me. I tried reinstall sl several times, updating drivers, looking for conflicts everything, but nothing works.

The music works fine at other websites, when I am playing a cd or mp3. Also if I stream music, I can hear well directly from my computer and others hear well, but if I push the music button, same thing, distorted and doubling.

I am using XP with pentimum iv.

does this only happen when your mic is on? it could be feedback from your mic picking up your music..
it sounds like a feed back problem to me..

I am not using microphone, only listening to music. At one time it played just fine, but for the last several months doubled and distorted. I've changed and updated drivers, reinstall nothing seems to work.

what type of soundcard do you have?

what i would look at first is what had changed when you started to notice this problem..
did sl change like with a patch or did a driver change on your system..was there an update to anything on your system or hardware..did you try rolling back the driver yet also?
did you do a system restore ..anything at all could be the problem..
most times it is something simple..

more details would be helpful though..like the specs of he card and version of driver..

I'm having a distortion problem also. The music will play fine up until the time that SL initializes Quicktime, then that is when I lose the left channel and the sound is very distorted. After I shut down SL the sound is back to normal.

Right on the verge of doing a clean install of everthing, which will be a royal pain, re-installing all the software that I use.

sounds like it may be a quicktime thing if you run fine before..i know i haven't updated my quick time yet and i haven't gotten any problems as of yet..i know i heard something about an update alittle while back..

Same here. Terrible distortions. Studdering music. Scratchy, popping. I have reinstalled the audio drivers for XP, uninstalled Quicktime and tried just about everything I can think of for the past 2 days. The problem sometimes goes away after an hour or so.

SoundMax Integrated Audio, cant find the model specs.

It used to be only with the streaming audio, radio and such, but now it is affecting the ambient wav sounds as well.

Currently using the RC 1.19.1 (4) but is now happening to the standard viewer 1.19.0 (5)

Clearing cache does not help, removed the RC and reinstalled and cleared cache to no avail.

You people with this problem, post your sound card info, driver info and characteristics. Does it get better after an hour or two? Anything that can help isolate this. This is a fustrating problem at best and if it is a widespread problem we need to submit a jira on it.

BTW: If someone discovers a fix, PLEASE post it.

Note:I have been inworld for about 2 hours and the audio problem has just about disappeared. A tiny bit of studdering now and then, but mostly crystal clear. Weird!

I have noticed this as well. I have tried streaming audio websites and everything is fine. It is only with SL that the distortion manifests.
