I use the Emerald viewer and I see this on my radar a few times daily:
[0:21] (???) (???) has entered the sim. [0:22] (???) (???) has left the sim. [0:22] (???) (???) has entered the sim. [0:22] (???) (???) has left the sim.
When I cam in on it its just a puff of smoke. Does enyone have a clue what it is? Bots? Linden agents? Banned avatars? What can it be?

I think its no biggy. Its just avatars that your client has not had a chance to recognize yet. If those people stayed longer you would know who they are. I get it time to time in places that are lagged and people pop in and out of a lot. I hope its no biggy.
Maybe some will post telling us how its a open source viewer designed to hide a griefer's identity.

Just Landbots, Spambots & SpyBots, I used to get around a dozen an hour at my old sim, only stayed long enough to Tp out to the next sim, must do wonders for the servers hammering away TPing like that 24/7.

I think the Emeral viewer isn't alway accurate with it's Radar. Several times I have it telling me someone is on the sim when clearly they aren't as not showing on the mini map or visible to the naked eye.

Many Bots don' stay long enough to even be visible to the eye or minimap in my experience.

Well, it just happened again:
[2:19] (???) (???) has entered the sim. [2:19] (???) (???) has left the sim. [2:20] (???) (???) has entered the sim. [2:20] (???) (???) has left the sim. [2:21] (???) (???) has entered the sim. [2:21] (???) (???) has left the sim.
Three times this time, and I saw the same thing, a puff off smoke appearing in the SW corner of the sim, and not on the landing point.

Wonder if someone attempting to log into there, unsucessfully if not at the landing point.

It also happens when you upload images but offcourse only once then, I haven't seen it yet for other reasons and with more then one in a row but then again I spend my time on estates so I'm far less likely to encounter bots, landbots are always programmed to ignore estate land listings and there are still not many data gathering bots yet.

Maybe they are rented traffic bots that move from place to place, racking up traffic points for places they land in. Traffic used to be 1 point per minute but Jack said they were changing it to count in seconds (has that been done yet?), so short stays may work.

I get that every time I upload something, so the radar is a tad funky in general. :/

If those puffs of smoke are appearing at the same spot in the corner. You could put a collision detector centred at that spot. An avatar or anything rezzing there should trigger it and capture the key and name.
A 'normal' visitor log might not scan often enough to catch it.
I know that if a Linden-owned object collides with a detector, the key and name are recorded as nulls. ??? ??? could be Emerald's way of reporting a null.
LL do have bots roaming the grid to check on things like sim stability and performance. I think that they appear as standard detectable avatars though.
Drop this code into a 10m cube. Make the cube phantom. Texture it however. I didn't add a section to clear the list, so do that by selecting and 'resett scripts in selecetion' Touch it and you get a time-stamped list of colliders
// Collider log. Sling Trebuchet // Touch to get a list list collider_list; string timestamp; string c_name;
default { state_entry() { llVolumeDetect(FALSE); // To reset in case of object edits (e.g. add prims llVolumeDetect(TRUE); } collision_start(integer num_detected) { // to mod for llDetectedType() On;y log if not AGENT c_name = llDetectedName(0); timestamp = llGetSubString(llGetTimestamp(),0,9) + " " + llGetSubString(llGetTimestamp(),11,21); // 2009-10-07T23:56:42.159660Z collider_list += c_name + " " + timestamp + " " + llKey2Name(llDetectedOwner(0)); }
touch_start(integer total_number) { integer len = llGetListLength( collider_list ); integer i; for( i = 0; i < len; i++ ) { llOwnerSay(llList2String(collider_list, i) ); } llOwnerSay("Total = " + (string)len );
} }

They usually come with names like "Performance1 Tester". And with SVC-4196 around, those bots "to monitor grid stability" are detrimental to the grid's stability, as it is... schrödingers cat, anyone?

Sling, that is interesting- how far does it's range extend? I get some of those question mark things also but not sure from where.

Could it be.. we have proof of the Back End Lag Monster's existence?! (Praise be it's Name, oh eater of inventories and tester of teleports!)
I've heard the tales of it only occurring when you teleport. Not sure if that's correct or not.

The LLTest Bots I've seen stay in the sim for around a minute or so as far as I've seen so I suspect their impact on TP isn't that big, but the resident owned bots hammer as fast as they can, I had 4000IM's into 1365 emails from a Spam Bot and it was visiting around 25 sims a minute. /327/6e/255845/1.htmlTP had a slowdown timer added in 2007 it used to be quicker, but it was found a single user with a dozen bots was able to use around 30% of the TP availabilty resources so they slowed it down and Bot runners then just ran 100 bots instead of 10 to get around it.
