Question about AO sit

Is there a way to sit down exactly where the mouse right clicks "sit" from an AO, instead of manually playing the sitting animation? Most terrain won't allow the avatar to sit, saying "no suitable surface to sit on", or simply sits like 10 feet away from where I clicked, making it hard to take photos. I'm using the ZHAO HUD, one with the two eye-like circles, the first one stacked vertically on top of the second one. Thanks.

Most of the newer AOs have this feature. Among the free ones, I know Shan Bright's "Bright AO" does (it's on XStreet, or look for her shop in world). Alternatively, the Emerald viewer comes with it built in.

I use the ZHAO II, and it sits me right down wherever I am just by touching the upper circle. :)

Unless I misunderstood?

In the ZHAO II there are three buttons: at the top is on/off, in the centre is the menu button, and on the bottom is 'sit anywhere'. It's the sit anywhere that you need, in order for your avatar to just sit down on the spot. (At least, I think that's the button order; the top and bottom could be swapped. I'm not logged inworld right now, so I can't check.)

There are numerous customised versions of the ZHAO available from animation sellers. I think the "standard" version is the one with just the two HUD prims, but there are versions in which virtually every menu button function is reproduced on a HUD prim.

On this topic, does anyone know of a "lean against wall/bar" AO?

/me wonders how many years it will take LL to build an AO into the client.
i suggested it in 2007, and i am sure many did it before and after me...

would cut the script time all over the grid by around 20 % i guess (no base for that guess of course :D)

They get a bad rap, but the modern ones are really pretty light, using less script time than many other types of scripted attachments. A popular multifunction gadget that is heavily plugged in the forums uses more script time with all its scanning features shut off _and_ its "sleep" mode turned on. Viewers do get a bit of a hit from all the custom animations that have to be downloaded, and that part wouldn't change with client side control.

That's probably why LL hasn't been in a hurry to change things. It doesn't help the AO already built into the viewer for controlling the built-ins is pretty hairy, and changing it too heavily can potentially break all sorts of AO-ish things (attached vehicles, custom avatars) that rely on the way it currently works.

Thanks so much for the tip on Bright AO. The HUD is really awesome, with lots of featured not even present in expensive AOs I got. ^^

Actually they would not even need to build in an AO. Most people would be happy to just have the ability to specify an animation to replace the default anims. No timers, not polling, zero scripting.

As long as I have been using it I just now learned about the built in texture viewer. Where in the heck is the built in AO at? I see the list showing what animations are playing with the ability to stop any of them but no means to specify animations.

I'm not in-world to check, Jesse, but as I recall the "ground sit" is on the "Emerald" menu on the top bar, next to "Help" and the "Advanced" menu. I don't often use it, being used to my own AO, but if I remember correctly it plays whatever ground sit you have loaded in your AO (or the default one if you are not using an AO, I imagine).
