I am not very computer savvy, but thought I would try putting this out here to get some ideas of what's going wrong. If anyone could help or has any advice, it would be greatly appreciated!

Since this past weekend, every time I log into SL, my laptop crashes after about a minute or two of being in world. Frustrated, I started up the ol' desktop (which I haven't used since I got the laptop) and was able to stay connected. So I am assuming my laptop has an issue, but have no clue whats wrong! I used to be able to play sl on my laptop with ease.

Now, on the desktop, I uploaded the newest update, and my avatar looks like shredded jesus with her head by her butt...

Anyone have any ideas to why my laptop is crashing only when using sl, and my avatar looks like a shredded jesus?

Much Much thanks!

Letty

Letty, it will really help folks to identify what's going on if you let us know what operating system you have for your desktop & what graphics card.....and also what laptop you use. That is going to tell us a lot right there.
Could very well be a graphics card issue with the desktop.....and laptop I'm not sure as I don't use one for SL but many folks here do. Also, did you recently update the version of SL you are running on the laptop??

Edit / Preferences - Graphics tab (may have to check custom) and uncheck Hardware Skinning.

Sorry about that...

My desktop, I am not sure because I am at work. It's a Dell running Windows XP, a few years old and I am not sure what graphics card. I would have to check when I get home tonight.

My laptop is a Dell XPS M1530, Vista Operating System, 128MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8400M GS

I did not update the version I was running on my lap top, but maybe I should. I just figured since I didn't have to update it, I wouldn't. But I will try that tonight and see what happens.

Thanks for your reply, Milla. I appreciate it.

do you use any sort of cooling pad under the laptop? Have you ever noticed the bottom/rear of it get very hot (like burn your fingers hot)? It's possible that may be affected by a heat issue with some nvidia gfx laptops. You might want to check Dell's website to see if there's a recall or BIOS patch for your model.

Yeah it does get super hot, I have to be careful of my fingers if I pick it up. Went on Dell website, found no re-call, so I will look into getting a cooling pad, see if that helps at all.

Thanks so much, Vampaerus!
