A little polite advice first... Don't make multiple posts asking the same question, most forum users find it impolite, and may flame you or get sarcastic. Also, check out some of the more specific boards like Event Discussion /110/1.html you can often get really expert help there. Another great place (where there are more detailed versions of the following) is http://slmc.myfastforum.org/index.php
I've never DJ'd professionally in SL, so take this advice as the ramblings of the amateur I am ![]() To get started you need 3 things; a venue, some means of playing music, and a stream to broadcast on. You could add a microphone if you want to introduce your songs, mixers, cross-faders, effects and compressors for professional effects but I'm pretty sure a lot of SL-DJs get along with out them. The venue needs to be somewhere you can set the music media URL in the land settings. That means land you own or lease, or a location you've arranged to play where the landowner will set the URL for you. Some kind of music player; Winamp being the obvious choice. There's a DSP plug-in from Shoutcast that you can use to turn Winamp into your own little internet radio station. Google Shoutcast and look under downloads "Be a DJ". There are all sorts of ways to get a stream. An established venue might provide one, but don't bet on it. Again, look on the SLMC forum for some good advice. You can even from use your own PC as a server, but you'd better have lots of upstream bandwidth. The simplest way I found was to search in-world for stream-hosting. There are businesses that will rent out a stream for as little as L$12 per hour: you get a URL to paste into the venue's parcel media options and into the Winamp output address. Good enough to experiment and get some practice. With no experience whatsoever I was up and running, playing music for a small group of friends. Another point to make... streaming music, even to friends, is considered broadcasting and requires permission from the owner of the music's copyright. _____________________

Take a Class

There are classes for all kinds of things in SL, and DJing is no exception
![]() Check under Events -> Education and put in the search box "DJ". I know there was one school that trained people and upon satisfactory completion of the classes would hire them in one of their venues. I know one person who went that route from having no knowledge of DJing previously and now is very busy with her new SL job. ![]() _____________________
