Hi All

Sorry if not in the right section, but I know that I almost always get a response here!

Ok so I am just getting started in Photoshop and I want to make my own textures... now I am trying to create a seamless texture.

I know that I need it to have an exact pattern repeat on all four sides so that there is no seam....but..

can I work out how to do that in PS - pfft! lol

Now I am really new to PS and so I am sure it's easy enough when you know how!!

So I would be really really really grateful if someone could baby-step me through how to do it!

Big hugs in advance!!

BB :)

There is no one way to make a texture seamless, it really depends on the nature & complexity of the texture - even then there are several ways to do it. You could, for example, make three layers from the background, quadruple the size of the canvas, and then using reflection, you can tile those four layers to make one seamless texture. For some textures, using the clone stamp might be a better approach.

I would strongly advise you get to grips with photoshop basics if you're considering making textures. The following link has a bunch of tutorials that provide a good intro to the basics:

Once you have worked through the basics, there are some pretty cool podcasts with tips and tutorials. Check out 'Adobe Photoshop Quicktips' by Justin Seeley. I advise you work through the tutorials at the above link (or any other basic tutorial) before doing so though.

Please ask this question in the Texturing Tips forum. The PS experts can help.

If you go to the texture forum, you will see a link, a button, toward the right of the screen that says "Search This Forum".

Click that link and put "Seamless Textures" in as the search term. You will find useful links by doing that.

The do the same using "Seamless tiles" as your search term.

Also use Google or another search engine and put

"seamless textures" second life wiki

in as your search term.

That will get you the second life wiki on a page that has several seamless texture related links, and the wiki has it's own search engine as well.

For something as widespread and popular as PS, there are thousands of tutorials all over the web. Try Googling "seamless texture tutorial" or similar.
