No way to find Mature or Adult content via web search? WEB-1279

Web Search used to be a decent portal for inworld Search. Sometime during LL's Adult rollout, they limited it to only return PG content, directing anyone who actually wants to find something to inworld search. If I'm logged into the website, I think it should use my account validation status to return mature or adult content as well as PG, but it doesn't.

My question: is anyone else bothered by this? Has anyone discussed it with a Linden?

I just created a Jira for it, I couldn't find one: https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/WEB-1279

I use web search quite often while writing, responding in these forums, and even while scripting (e.g. looking up keys of my alts to use as test cases).

(Incidently, on the new website search is accessed via the Search button in the very top right of the screen).

I apologize if this was hashed out in some Adult thread, but since it affects Mature content as well, I thought it deserved its own discussion and thread.

Yes, we have known for months that search.secondlife.com has been "sanitized". It's not completely cleaned up, you can find adult items via things that slip thru the word filters, or via people's profiles. It does say "Launch viewer to search mature and adult listings", so at least they are being up front about it being not all results.

The map function also does not return everything. It returns mature map regions by name, and parcels which do not have "mature content" checked in About Land only within those regions. It does not return adult map regions or anything on them.

As far as I'm aware it was only ever supposed to return PG content, but they didn't know how to make it work that way.

I understand sanitizing the public web display. But if I'm logged in, then it should reflect my maturity settings. That would go a long way to making the web search an actual resource rather than a pretty widget.

I did some testing with the new web search, apparently they broke the caps vs lowercase. It will take a while to test more words, but try Escort vs escort as an example.

Interesting. I see that mature places are returned when I type "Escort" or "sex" --- hmmm. Doesn't matter whether I'm logged into the website or not, results are the same. But the notice about needing to go inworld to find Mature and Adult content is still there, and I could swear that I tested these cases and got different results before the new website.

And even curiouser: my brand-new Jira ("Use account validation status to allow finding Mature and Adult content using Web Search";) got a Linden Dev number. So they must already have been working on it. Whatever "it" actually is!

Please check out independant wiki page for an updated description of search behavior:

http://www.slapt.me/wiki/index.php/Adult_Content_Keywords
http://www.slapt.me/wiki/index.php/Adult_Content_Keywords

if you note something that's different than what is written there, please edit or put a note in the talk page

I have gotten partway through checking the hundreds of words NOT filtered in the past. We keep a list of words we have checked to save other people from wondering what works and what does not work.

Main changes:

* Any uppercase letter anywhere in a word causes web search to let a word through. This has the side effect of letting BDSM and XXX get searched where they did not before.

* Dungeon is no longer filtered either in Viewer search, or website search.
