Tonight for the first time I found tracking cookies in my SL Viewer.
Specifically: in Path: C:\USERS\YOU NAME\APPDATA\ROAMING\SECONDLIFE\BROWSER_PROFILE\
The cookies are: COOKIES.TXT[.go.com/] COOKIES.TXT[.statcounter.com/] COOKIES.TXT[.doubleclick.net/] COOKIES.TXT[.atdmt.com/]
These cookies track and report all of your on-line activites -- the places on the internet that you go.
I am very conscientious about PC security and have a multi-layered up-to-date security set up.
I WANT TO KNOW HOW THESE COOKIES GOT INTO MY SL CLIENT????
I suspect that this will not be the last you hear of this.

From a web page displayed in someone's web tab in their profile, most likely.

:0 do you have cookies turned off under the sl preferences? if you do and they still got written, then yah, that would be kinda borken.

Yep Susan. I saw it a few days ago. She is awesome and talks are underway to sign her to Simon's label.

From: Hok Wakawaka I was so shocked to see these malicious cookies in my client I stopped thinking Ah no. You kinda stopped thinking before that, as cookies in of themselves are not malicious. They might be used for distateful purposes, but they do not to anything malicious. You may now resume your thinking, hopefully this time with a better understanding of the nature of the 'threat'. - Newfie

- Newfie ah but what about threat to privacy? =) (I always find cookie paranoia funny though, Firefox has a great set of options that I can cause all but certain sites cookies to be dumped on close. check accept cookies from sites, add any sites you don't want cookies wiped for to the the exceptions list as allow, change the keep until drop down to 'I close Firefox" make sure that cookies are NOT checked on the private data 'settings' button just below it. PS the allow list only reads top level names though, so for instance secondlife.com, and forums.secondlife.com are the same thing to it.)

Or just go with Chrome where everything is sandboxed and then you only have to worry about Google
