That usually happens when I've got my draw distance too low.

There is a set draw distance in Second Life. If yours is set low, then things will appear as you say.
Go into preferences and up the draw distance to see more. The better your graphics card, the further you will be able to handle.

Since you're probably using the same account, I would guess your graphic preferences are set the same way, i.e you don't change them when you're using your lap top?

How Can I Fix This Problem? Your Laptop Is Probably Not As Powerful As Your Other Computers, And Thus Defaulted To A Lower Draw Distance. You Can Fix That In The Graphics Preferences. (Damn, it's murder to type like that.)

Ahh... So the default settings change with what computer you're using. Makes sense.

From: Isabeau Imako Ahh... So the default settings change with what computer you're using. Makes sense. Yup. It's specific to the computer, not to the account. You could use a hundred different accounts on one machine, and they'd all see the same settings. Then use the same hundred on a hundred different machines, and they'll all see different things (potentially).

Something I have noticed about view distance -
With a standard viewer install it defaults me to 128M
With Windlight it defaults me to 96M sometimes and 64M other times.
After an install I've made it a habit of going through all the options and changing it to show the things I want and reduce the things I am not concerned with.
