I can't log in to sl. I just get a box saying log in failed. Is anyone else having this problem?

Yes, intermittently, but it's hard to tell how bad the problem is in general from here because the sim I hang out in (Marwood, where one of the skin ripping pests has set up shop) has been subject to persistent crashygriefystuff for the past few days.

I was able to log in (just tried and got in)

however strangely, I set mine to log into my home location, and I end up somewhere about 10 meters or so from it

been happening last few logins and yes I have done the clear cache thing

I've logged in a couple of times today and usually on the second or third attempt do I actually get in. I'm running the Windlight viewer and occasionally, I get the 'can't login' thing. Odd that it seems to coincide with a rash of 503's for the website too.

I am still logged in (so far no crash) but things are running extremely slow, changing clothes is taking forever, and stuff keeps saying waiting for attachment for that spot message, when trying to switch hair

You may not like it when/if you finally manage to log in. It's simply craptacular in Second Life right now. Linden Lab is running 3 for 1 specials. With your graphics lag you also get text lag and prim attachments up the butt or not rezzing at all.

But wait! There's less! Act now and you will also get scripts not working! Plus if you order now LL will also throw in tp failures and search failures!
