When an object for sale says two different names for owner and the creator. Does that mean it belongs to someone else and they shouldn't be selling it? Or is it common for others to sell their products for them? I hope that made sense...

With all the "Business in a box"s going around, I think it's become a bit common to find someone selling thigs they did not create. It has never been enough of an indicator on its own of someone who may be selling something they should not be.

I just rather not buy from someone unless I know it's legit. I don't want people like that getting my money. So I wondered if there was legit reasons why it would have two names on it. I really like this dress.:o I'll search on the owner and see if they have a shop.:)Thanks!

You know, I was looking at the actual display, not the dress. Could it be someone else just made the display?

Easily, yes.

It doesn't sound in the least like someone is doing anything wrong in this case. It could be anything from someone using a display made by a buddy (or even one sold for the purpose elsewhere) to someone re-selling a transferable product they no longer want, to somoene re-selling as a distributor.

I think you could buy with confidence, I do really.

Yes, there are legitimate reasons for it to have two different names on it, my partner and I have various shops all under our trading name, but since he makes up most of the mens tattoos and I make up most of the womens tattoos, when we place tattoos in our shops they may well appear with one of us as the creator and one as the owner. Since there are many partnerships like ours in sl, I would think it is probably more common in a legitimate way than many would think, but that is one of the main reasons most of our shops now carry a welcome sign stating exactly which people are connected with our business so customers know they are dealing with the right people all the time.

Exactly, I just did a watch with a friend/business associate, and we're doing a split. She did the build, I did the scripts, if you look at the creator it shows a her, but I sell it in my shop out of my vendor. Simply looking at the object doesnt always tell you all who were involved, so it could be quite legit for someone to be selling something where they are not the creator. Also, many people approach me and ask to be a reseller of my objects (which I never do btw), but I imagine some do, and if that's the case, they'd be selling an item they are not the creator of, yet, have full permission from the creator to do so.

I agree it could be completely legit. I have sold some of my design to someone else for the sole purpose of her reselling them in her store.

I too have created content specifically to sell to another business so they can sell it under their own brand. If you are still concerned then IM the creator and check out the history of the object in question.

you could always check the profile of the creator aswell, if they are selling it/stuff them self, they would most likely have a "classified" or their place in "picks"

Some people make things under an alt also.

If in doubt, you could always ask the creator. They might be glad to hear of a potential scam. If they get a lot of queries, chances are their profile will say that they are the creator for Store X owned by Avatar Y, or they'll be in the same groups.
