Invisible prims/walls?

I know there had been an issue where items rezzed on land, then taken back into inventory remained on the land as an invisible obstruction.

However, this is not the case in recent days.

My friend and I both have invisible obstructions on our land in places where builds have been in place for at least a few weeks. Neither of us built anything large in these spots, nor did we drop large objects then take them back. In the last several days, these obstructions came into play.

In the previous "invisible remaining object" problem, I was able to go into the land info window and highlight my objects, then click/drag to highlight the offending item and either delete or take it.

In this case, there is no item there (according to the tools available, anyway). These "walls" can't be walked through or over. They appear to be about the same size and ctrl-alt-t doesn't show anything there (nor does any other tool I've tried).

Since we both live on the same island, I thought it might be prudent to ask other residents if they're experiencing the same thing before taking it further.

If nobody else has the issue, I'll assume it's island-related and go in that direction.

Thanks!

That certainly sounds like the ghost-prim issue that's been around for a few weeks. Is it possible that someone else rezzed some prims then deleted them, on your land?

As far as I know, the best / only quick fix is to restart the sim. That seems to 'reset' all the ghost prims and get things back to normal.

At first I thought it was the same issue I"d had about 2 months ago, but based on my inability to highlight the item (as I had been able to with the past rezz/take/still there) crapola, it appears to be a new & improved annoyance. Yay. :|

I'll ask for a restart, thanks :)

The last few times I've had these ghost prims on my island, I couldn't highlight them, couldn't select them, couldn't see them with Ctrl-Alt-T... my theory is that something gets out of whack between the rendering system and the physics system.

The objects are deleted or otherwise purged from the rendering engine, hence you can't in any way get them to appear or selected etc. But the physics engine or collissions engine doesn't purge them, so you bump into them, you can stand on them, and generally they just get in the way.

However, whatever the cause, a restart seems to be the way to fix them.

A possibility...

There was a previous issue where prims ended up in the SW corner of the sim, coords 0,0,0 but the actual collisions were left in the previous location. You could try going to those coords and taking a looksee... sometimes if you right click these objects they sort themselves out.

Worth a try.

I had a similar experience the other day. My prim count was higher than it should be with one prim not owned by me (and no owner listed). I couldn't find the prim anywhere on my parcel. I checked 0,0,0 of the sim and actually found an AVI at that position. The thing is, this was the same AVI (in the same pose and same animations) that was laying on a piano at the store next to my parcel. I even zoomed back and forth to check a few times and she was still at the piano - apparently two places at once. Anyone else see this? The weird thing was this AVI seemed active. At one point she was rezzing things (though I didn't think to zoom back to 0,0,0 to see if the duplicate was doing so as well).

(A short while after the sim was restarted and things went back to normal.)

That's where the difference lies between the previous issue (where items that were taken were actually NOT taken and remained in the form of ghost prims) and this one.

My prim count didn't change at all from before the mysterious obstruction to after. So it's not something physical that remained, yet invisible. It's ...I don't know what the hell it is.

Maybe this calls for a rebuild and make an archeological dig. Maybe it's a prehistoric prim that we just don't know anything about yet.

/me also suggests taking a look at 0,0,0. They're restarting the grid tomorrow so make sure to check there today..

I've also seen phantom objects do this sort of thing. A friend had this problem for 6+ months on a dance floor. A Linden came by and cleaned up the junkyard at 0,0,0 then restarted the sim but that didn't help. She eventually removed some 'disco lights' over the dance floor and the mystery bumps went away with them.. Weird. Got anything like that in the area?

Nothing at all in the specific area but a flat floor. No prims were added, removed, rezzed, built, moved to that location or otherwise adjusted in that specific area. Ctrl - alt - T reveals nothing.. all previous ghost prim issues in past had something previously there, where this particular situation does not.

0,0,0 reveals nothing

Prim count didn't change.

It's not the typical ghosted item. Perhaps it will be resolved with a restart or after wednesday's downtime.

And perhaps monkeys will fly out of my avatar's ass (note: i said "my avatar's" in the event fate decides to, once again, get nasty with me!) hehe...

Make sure you don't have shoes there, keeping them from flying out..

I had this problem when the sim I was working in crashed. For one day afterwards, I could not use that space, walk in, find any prims, nothing whatsoever. I had 5 friends all over the ground looking and we found nothing. We thought it may have been a GENE prim, but it wasnt. The next day after a sim restart, the area was fine.

That is what I suggest, request a sim restart.

Good Luck!

Good luck getting a restart before tomorrow.

All sims will be getting re-started tomorrow anyways, so LL will probably just hold off on your sim until afer the downtime tomorrow.

My guess is that your issue will be resolved with tomorrows downtime and sim re-boot.

(until then, do what I do...rez a big prim there so you don't forget that theres an invisible wall...I hate walking into those things )
