Hi All

Sorry am really new to SL and have just bought a new skin and bodyshape.

What I wanted to know was can I change the make-up on my skin and if so how and where is the best place to get make-up?

TIA

Most custom skins have limited ability to change the makeup. Some will, for example, be partially transparent on the lips and cheeks, allowing you to use the sliders to alter lip color or blush effects. But bear in mind that the point of buying a custom skin is usually to get something that is far better than what the default skin and makeup system can deliver. So most of the custom skin can't be changed readily with user controls.

More expensive custom skins will offer a range of makeup options, which are seperate head textures created by the original artist. Some skin providers, like SS Labs, will custom-make a variety of makeup options based on your purchased base skins, working from a huge variety of options. Some will also add a third-party tattoo to a skin you bought from them. But you can't do that yourself.

Contact the maker of your skin and ask them what is possible with it. But except for some slight slider tweaks in Appearance mode, don't expect to change a custom skin much using anything made by anyone but the original maker.

My alt bought a superb skin plus a freckles add-on pack. These were alternative head textures which added freckles to the 'standard' make-up options.
Then the creator brought out some extra make-ups, also alternative head textures. Not realising the contruction arrangement I was surprised and saddened that these removed the freckles.
I IM-ed the creator and she's offering a custom service to add the freckles :)
I hope your creator is as accommodating Barrowness :)

Hi bilbo99 Emu

I did try to IM her about a problem with the bodyshape, but got no response so I hope that when I try to IM her re the make-up she does come back with something!

Was she online when you IM'd? If she was offline and received a number of IMs during that period, her messages could have been capped, which means she probably didn't get yours. It's usually a good idea to send a meaningfully titled notecard as well when trying to contact offline content creators with a question.

Also, some creators put important business information in their profiles (front page or Picks), such as their available hours or whether they're willing to do customizations, so questions which are already answered there may not be answered personally.

Make a notecard in your inventory. Open her profile. Drag the card from your inventory to the bar on her profile that indicates it is for giving inventory to that person.

Hi Barrowness

to make a notecard, go to your inventory in world. click on the tab at the top which says new and select notecard.

Type your message in the notecard and click save. it will be listed in your inventory as new notecard. If you right click it and select rename you can then give it a meaningful name.

To give it to the creator of your skin....do a search for them in world and open their profile, you then just drag and drop your notecard on to their profile near the bottom of the screen where it tells you to drop inventory

welcome to sl, hope your stay is a pleasant and rewarding one :-)

Don't be embarrassed...there's a significant learning curve for SL and, if you don't ask, you'll never know. ;)

I need the actual image of a head tattoo to use in photoshop. I want to put my face on the tattoo. All I can find are wire frames. Any help would rock.

Heya Billy,

Check the texturing tips forum, bit further down.....
I'm pretty sure you'll either find what you're looking for or post your question there and will get an expert answer
