Anyone using this graphics card to run SL? If so, how does it do?

All settings at their highest. All effects checked. 256 meter draw distance. 4x AA. 1920x1080 display. I have not actually checked FPS rates, but I almost never get viewer-side lag. And that's with the Asus G51, which is slightly underclocked.

My wife has my old comp with an ATI Radeon X1900XTXVPU which spanks most games but for some reason lags on SL - even crashes the comp which is a 2 y/o dual-core I had built. We are looking at an Asus G51Vx-X3a with 2.53G dual-core cpu should do fine. Just a lot of cash wanna be sure...Oh I see u have the same series jus' looked - very good!!! |

We are running the 260 on the big computer here, and it works great.

Only difference is I have the 2.0GHz quadcore and a second dive (although I replaced the HDD it came with with a solid state drive: running Windows 7 it is very speedy). It handles SL fine, and the screen quality is excellent.

What about the size of the 260, though?
I need to replace an ATI 4350, which measures (in inches) 6.6 x 2.73 x 0.75. It's that last one that bothers me, as I believe all the 260s are twice that height (1.5 inches). Also they're about 4 inches longer. (I guess I've probably answered my own question, though it would be interesting to know if anyone has successfully replaced a small card with a large one. The case in my particular case is a tad narrow [7 inches], so it's iffy.) From what I can see from my dimensions research, my only good choice might be an NVidia 9500, which isn't as large as its brethren. _____________________

Anyone using this graphics card to run SL? If so, how does it do? The GTX 260M will render SL with all graphics settings maxed, with moderate levels of anisotropic filtering (AF) and antialiasing (AA) applied, without even breathing hard. If you run into client-side lag, it's not going to be that graphics chip causing it. What laptop are you planning to get that has this chip? _____________________

Just a heads up, the GTX260 and GTX260M are completely different graphics adapters. The 260M is for laptops, and is significantly less powerful than the desktop model. It's still excellent for SL, but it's really closer to the 8800GT than to the GTX260.

As per Nvidia's Maximum Confusion Naming Policy, the desktop and mobile chips using the same name are very different. A desktop GTX 260 has 216 cores v. 112 in the GTX 260m. Still not a bad card, but the specs for the laptop cards are about the same as the desktop 8800GT/9800GT, which can also run SL very well.
