Hi everyone, I am completely at a loss and want some advice or clarity.
I owned a piece of mainland, that had a sl kids non profit resource on it. I put the land and the project up for sale due to real life issues. My sl granddaughter bought the land outright, then assigned it to my projects group which I am the founder of. I gave her complete ownership role in my group and we were transitioning her control of the property over. I left the build intact for her benefit.
Today we find out that she held some photo contest along with my sl daughter and sl granddaughter who own a kids club. The photo contest run by the same avie who bought my project/land. She was accepting lindens from contestants in the photo contest. Today she walked away with a couple of k in lindens from the entrance fee, deleted her account, abandoned the group that controlled the land I had sold her and left me controlling the land again.
A few of the contestants of the photo contest wrongly ARed my other granddaughter who was helping with the photo contest as scamming them. My granddaughter didn't get any lindens from the contest, only the kid avie that put the objects up to accept entrance fees received lindens and she is the one that scammed people, walked away, and abandoned the land I had sold her, leaving it to my group, that I founded.
I have retrieved the land back at the moment. I have no idea what to do next. Reports are being filed against this avie for scamming people out of lindens. Do I keep the land? Was I wrong to retrieve it back when she left it to my group that I founded? I of course have been paying tier on it up until two days ago.
I am thinking of also finding a way to figure out who paid the entrance fees for this photo contest to give them back their lindens even though I had nothing to do with the photo contest, but I want to help out my sl daughter and granddaughter who were left hurt and being blamed for something they didn't do.
Any advice is much appreciated. I am considering calling the lindens to see what I should do.
thanks, Chevy

Who is this SHE that you are referring to? By the way you have written this, it reads as though your SL granddaughter, who bought the land, was the one who ran the contest and took the lindens. You need to be more specific as to who this mysterious other person is who made off with the money. If the contest was run by the AV that bought your project & land....then that name is recorded in transaction history....but the way you've written this, it really isn't clear at all, what actually happened. From: someone A few of the contestants of the photo contest wrongly ARed my other granddaughter who was helping with the photo contest as scamming them. thanks, Chevy I don't think you're going to be able to find out who paid those fees.....unless you can solicit the help of the Lindens, and perhaps get those folks paid back. It sounds like there are too many chiefs running things in the group.......not sure how long you've had a relationship with the other people involved.....but obviously someone saw an opportunity to make some fast cash, and ran with it. I don't know what advice to give.....if you truly don't have the time due to RL to be managing this land and group.....then you need to step away and let the chips fall where they may. On the other hand....you jumped right back in and got involved, which suggest you really don't want to let go. If that's the case......then you need to decide for yourself what your next step is. Sell it to someone you trust, and then ya just have to let it be. Contact LL about the scam....let them know you want to rectify the situation....but beyond that.....there's not much else you can do. LL will either step in and figure out who took and L's and help....or they wont. It totally sucks that someone took advatage like this.....but people can be scum, sadly, leaving the rest of us to live and learn.

Since she deleted her account, then the land belongs to the group and it's your group, so it's your land. Make sure that she is evicted from the group and you can safely deed it back to the group if you are the only one who has the ability to sell it.
The 2000L that she ran off with is almost irrelevant, but it's very nice that you are willing to reimburse anyone who was scammed, although you do have the land again. I wouldn't go trying to find them though, or you may get plenty of people who weren't scammed taking advantage of you.

Sorry I wasn't clear, its a complicated situation. I have an adult sl daughter who had two sl daughters who were twins. (my granddaughters) One of the twins I have known for a long time. The other was a new addition to their family. This new addition is the one who bought the project/land I had for sale. My SL daughter and the daughter who has been with her the longest run a club for kids. The newer twin is the one who set up the photo contest at their club. I don't run this club and have nothing to do with it. My connection is as family. And the newer twin had bought my project/land. This newer twin walked away with the entrance fees on the photo contest, leaving my sl daughter and the twin holding the bag. My question about the land isn't whether I should continue the project or not. Its about ethical or sl policy. This new twin paid lindens for this land and bought the land. I assigned her to ownership of the project that goes with the land (not to be confused with the kids club mentioned above). She walked away, abandoned the project, the group and left me with it, leaving me as the only owner of the group that controls the land. Can I ethically keep this land being that she paid for it, then abandoned it to my group which I founded and own? That's my question about the land. I will let those who are upset about her scamming them out of the entrance fees to try to get that money back through the lindens. I only considered offering to replace it to help my sl daughter out. I had nothing to do with the club or event that was set up for this contest. The kids club and my project/group are two complete separate entities.

I had nothing to do with the club or event that was set up for this contest. The kids club and my project/group are two complete separate entities. yes you can keep the land, ethically, morally and within the TOS, she willingly put it to the group that is your group then willingly left SL and the land in the group, so basically she gave you the land back. as for the money and such, I know it is hard when you see someone you care about get screwed over, but it is neither the fault of you, or the granddaughter who did nothing wrong. The one that owes people is the one that ran off with the money. Don't worry about AR's, LL doesn't get involved with resident to resident disputes, besides, the records will show that neither you, nor the granddaughter still in SL took no money for any contest. people can check their transactions and see who they willingly gave their money to. They really do not have much to stand on, it is the same as when the bank scams were going on, people willingly gave their money to another... doesn't matter what the other person claims they will do with the money... sadly in this case the "other granddaughter" was a ripoff artist who will probably be back under another avatar to scam the next trusting folks.

From: Osprey Therian Yes. Of course, you need to reimburse those who lost out. why does she owe anyone anything? She is not the one who took the money or ran the contest. The only one who owes the money is the person in the transaction logs. Now IF she wants to give them money, that is up to her, but she owes no one anything. (add to that she has no proof of who got the money and who did not, all it takes is a few dishonest folks to really make this go from bad to worse with fake transaction logs) would you owe people money if your friend screwed them over? basically the same thing.

I think that whether or not the op should pay back the people would be determined by whether the contest was advertised as run by the person that left or sponsored by the land group. As it was run by an owner of the group on group owned land leads me to believe the group should be responsible.

From: Rhaorth Antonelli why does she owe anyone anything? If it were me and I'd received money for land that then was returned to me I wouldn't feel I was doing the right thing unless I gave back the money that others lost. I would explain and reimburse people. The goodwill would be worth more than the money anyway. It was asked; that's my view.

From: Chevonne Cazalet Hi everyone, I am completely at a loss and want some advice or clarity. I doubt that anyone would bother to scam for $L 2k. Maybe? And if they were out to scam, would they start by *buying land*... this really seems like a side effect of some drama, not a scam for money to me. Sounds like the $L was a side effect. As for what to do, well, that's kinda up to you. Who is actually paying tier on that group land? I wouldn't be surprised if it rapidly fell into default. Go for as much closure and peace as you can. One idea: sell the land (again?), pay off the scammed with the proceeds and forget about the whole thing. Everyone goes home happy.

This is not the first time ppl have been scammed by these pay per vote/enter contest I think its just another reminder to ppl dont get involved with them. As ppl have said the land is yours and as others have said also you need to decide if you want the hassle that goes with running a place or RL is to busy and you need to walk away. Dont let SL and a pretend family take time from RL
Oh something i did find odd .. how do you ave a " newer twin"i thought they came in pairs

From: Windsweptgold Wopat Oh something i did find odd .. how do you ave a " newer twin"i thought they came in pairs In the sl kids community, 1 sl kid will pair up with another sl kid and decide they are twins. My sl granddaughter was not a twin originally, the new addition to her family, a sister happened in the past week, that new addition became her twin after they decided to be twins. To everyone else. The land that was purchased and the group that owned it is completely separate from the photo contest that occurred. The common denominator between the land and the photo contest was this new kid who ran the contest on her families land at a kids club was also the same person who purchased my groups land. I had no connection to the photo contest except through family. The reason I know of it is my sl daughter and grand daughter ran the property/club the contest was held at, the new addition to their family (I will name her BB) is who collected entrance fees to the photo contest and walked out with lindens, the amount no one is certain of. So to clarify again. BB joined my family as a twin of my granddaughter. She ran a photo contest on her family's land/kids club. She collected the entrance fees. She also bought the land my group owned on the mainland. She abandoned her family, all of her shops, the land she purchased from me, the groups for all, and walked away from the photo contest taking all lindens with her. We are hearing reports that she has 20 alts, and gets money from all sorts of people. I have no idea of that is true, but it is certainly possible. Thank you to everyone. What I have decided at this point is to let the lindens deal with the issue of the return of the money. Since this did NOT occur on my land or property or group, and was connected to my sl kids, they have decided what they want to do, and i am stepping back.

if she was so greedy she stole a measly $L2000, why didnt she sell the land instead of abandoning it? how did she manage to get herself immediately purged from the system? she was a child av? youre sure you are aware of the true reason she vanished from the grid?

She abandoned everything, has reported of a total of 20 alts, and a few people who know her for the past two years report same behavior, we don't know how much she got, we can only estimate between 3K on up. Your right though, the land part of it doesn't make sense. But she clearly abandoned everything.

You do realize that give or take a couple dollars 2000L is less than $10 in real money.

I wouldn't worry about it. It is maybe 10$us and it was from alot of people so nobody really lost more than a couple of dollars...they probably have lost more buying crappy boots or something...

From: Windsweptgold Wopat This is not the first time ppl have been scammed by these pay per vote/enter contest I think its just another reminder to ppl dont get involved with them. Whilst you are entitled to your view I would like to point out that it is people who scam people, nothing else. People who are out to scam will use anything at their disposal to achieve that. There are many pay for vote picture contests that are run by reliable and honest people. I don't think it is right to tar them all by the same brush. The fact that these people were scammed by someone using a voting contest as their tool of choice is irrelevant. The could have easily chosen some other method of scamming these people. Careless comments such as yours can cause damage to the honest businesses of others who are running and/or creating contest systems for the enjoyment of others.
