You are referring to the blast of air coming up from a subway grate underneath Marilyn Monroe in the film "The Seven Year Itch" are you not? The scene that blew her skirt up to her waist?

So you want this effect but without the subway grate accessory I take it?

Not everyone's seen that film... ;-)

Flexi-prim skirt, scripted to alter the "wind" and "gravity" variables as needed to make the skirt panels blow upward, perhaps. It will still be fluttering and flapping panels though, and not a smoothly flowing sheet of fabric.

But since you can't make a flexiprim skirt that mimics the movement of an actual cone of fabric and obeys "collisions" with the avatar's body, you won't ever quite get the effect marylin got in that movie, where she stood over the air grate, and the rising air made her silk skirt flow upwards as she pushed down at it with her hands.

Right, and forgive me, I just assume people can read my mind..lol..i want the effect of the blast of wind..not necessarily the grate in the floor..ok, i have a tunnel, and i want a blast of air to come through it at random intervals, ok maybe more like something on an alien spaceship..sorry I didnt explain it well enough, I didnt get my Fruity Pebbles today.

I picked up a Marilyn dress that came with two versions of the skirt, one regular and one that looked like the wind gust got it, along with the pose, at Jetdoll - bought Marilyn hair at Ingenue.

After reading the whole thread carefully, I realize that you want the air blast.

Yes, it can be scripted on command into a flexiprim dress.
Would probably require a lot of tweaking/experimenting to look realistic though, but that's what SL scripters usually like to do.

i'm not sure if this can be done or not..if it is about the skirt blowing up and it is in the same location like for a display..i am wondering if you could not already have the skirt in place and linked with a pose ball with a script in the skirt prims itself..having it rezz when someone was to get on the poseball..that or go from transparent to visible
it wouldn't be attached to the avatar but could be prefit to an avatar.

it would be neat to find out if you could..

Edit..i totally missed the post above me :o

I guess I wasnt really talking about the clothing blowing up..although that's a pretty cool idea, I was actually talking about just a stream of air, like the air that comes up..or goes horizontal, like through a tunnel...guess im an idiot...lol

Well, you can't make a 'stream of air' in SL. But it's possible to create all the effects of a stream of air. From a smal 'woosh' sound, upto avatars being blown up a 100m high...
It all depends on your expectations of what that 'stream of air' is supposed to be doing ;)

It's possible, but it probably requires a component in the dress/skirt, specifically made to work in combination with the vent to work.

you can fake flexi wind as well, use the force X,Y,Z variables, you may want to try and find a way to switch them remotely for better effect
