or 'texture grids' i should say?

i got the idea from crystal gadgets (http://slurl.com/secondlife/Babeli/111/125/24).

basically what i do is, whenever i create new product promos, i put four 512 promo pics on one 1024x image. ive edited my hibrid and svn vendors to use image panels when displaying products. that means, i only pay 10L to have four promo pictures. that's a 75% savings in upload costs!

the only drawback is, it takes the first image of a set twice as long to load. (this is offset a bit by the other 3 images loading instantaneously.)

and... the fact that no commercial vendors -- in fact, not even freebie vendors! -- are set up to use image panels/texture grids at all!

well why not? am i missing something here? sure, when i started out, i went for three months when i had ZERO ells, and 10L back then was a huge deal to me. but, call me stingy... i still like saving all those upload costs. hey, i dont even upload textures or sculpties or especially animations until ive tested them out on the beta grid. seen if/how they work, tweaked them to perfection... THEN i pay real money to upload them!

why haven't jvn or hippo and all tweaked to using these? NOBODY wants that feature, except me?

I gang up textures whever I can, though I still try to avoide anything greater than 512 if possible.

I use that too. I have 16 vendor images on a single texture. I just use prims set for sale though so it's pretty easy to set up.

Stealth advertising?

If it was something you wanted, you could have suggested it to the creators. But such a product relies on informed clientele. People make a 1:1 association with the images and their products. A vendor using your model has to think in advance about the products and how they are displayed. Whereas with jevn or hippo, people can just add things to the vendor on the fly without having to tweak the 1024 or the sorting order of their products.
