OK I saw this dress at a shop for L$80, and saw the exact same one on xstreetSL for L$11

big suprise huh?
Either he made it and someone stole it and is selling for less or they made it, he stole it and jacked up the price.

YOu know even if something cost more I would rather buy it from the original creator, but how to know who originally created it? I figure someone went thru the trouble of designing something they deserve the lindenage, even if it is more than what someone else sells it for.

I will not name the outfit here in regards to privacy but how can you know who the honest one is?

Lot of BIB's (business in a box) with full perm stuff in them around. People buy them, setup or rent a store and mark the items to whatever. Any number of people do the same and you end up with the same items with lots of different prices all over..

I stick with brands I know don't do BIB stuff.

Checkout the wholesale section on Xstreet for BIB examples.

Or maybe they both bought it to resell?

Odds are, if you see the exact item, in two places, and with two prices; there WILL be a place where you can find it for free. (^_^)y

Merely selling a product at a different price than a competitor is not dishonest.

Unfortunately, it is true that Second Life does not offer great tools to help consumers do comparison shopping. Therefore, any purchase you make in Second Life is a risky purchase.

To see who originally created something... right click on the item and a properties window should pop up. That should tell you the original creator or the creator. If it doesn't, I'd assume BIB (business in a box or free as Immy said).

Doesn't work if the textures were stolen, though.

You'd have to buy both items in order to do that. Which would kind of defeat the desire not to buy from the one who didn't create it.

The question you need to ask yourself is... is this product worth, to me, what they charge for it? Am I better off with the product than with whatever else I might spend that money on?

If the answer is "yes", don't sweat the cost.

If the answer is "no", don't buy it.

What Argent said.

I always look to see if the seller is the creator. Sorry but I really never buy anything being sold by anyone other than the creator.

some people do have yard sales that they are selling off thier inventory..but it is not multiple items..most times they are very low priced..i haven't really shopped atthose places in a long time but i remember them being like used cd stores where you bouth the item and if you forgot to take the item off the wall you you had to go back for them..nobody else could buy it because the whole sign and everything was yours with the outfit..
kind of like a garage sale more or less..people leaving sl trying to get back part of thier inventory..i just thought they were originals that nobody else had when i was buying them back then hahahaha..
i remember saying to myself..nobody in all of sl has this outfit but me..until i started seeing a couple of them lol..

god that was liek back when i first got in sl in 2006 the first few months before i caught on lol

I know there are several residents on this forum who make things, including myself who make things by hand, are not doing BIAB. Rha and Amarathim make beautiful clothes. My friend Auroraskye also makes wonderful clothes that she charges very low prices even though she spends endless of hours drawing by hand to make rarely makes a sale on Xstreet. She rarely sales anything she makes over 350L$ most of products are below 150$. I strictly work with Onrez myself but I am doing this for fun and I often don't have energy to put up everything I made or I don't feel it's perfect enough. Stuff I put up for sell is stuff I would genuinely be proud of others own it. And I spend endless honest hours trying to make it the best I possibly can. Most of my products are unisex or Men who might want something bit more flamboyant or different none of it is over 50L$.
My newest line if I can figure out the details will be Steampunk or other fantasy, mutli-cultural and historical influenced fetish fashions for men.
There is numerous other residents who post regularly here who make really wonderful items too and are honest too.

I do all the vendors for mine and my partners shops. She hates that job and I hate doing the photoshopping for the Ads. So we split the work this way. Merely assuming because the creator of a box the item is housed in and the seller are different is a BIAB is fairly naieve.

To more accurately check (I say mroe accurately cos this wont work for the items in my store) right click an item and go into edit mode, then go to contents then check the creator versus seller in there. But like I said this can still be inaccurate cos our stuff is boxed to allow peopel a choice of copy OR trans permissions and I made and boxed them up thengave them to my partner

yes you have to do more than look at who created the box the items are in, because the seller might very well be the 'creator' of the box. If I can, I will go into 'edit contents' and if the stuff is in a folder I right click properties and look at the creator from there.

And I don't mean to say I never EVER buy if the seller is not the creator, I misspoke there. I have purchased things from yard sales (not often) and if the seller is someone I know or know of, or a well known content creator, I'm not afraid to buy from a vendor even though I can't actually see the creator then.

It's just a little quirk I have, with all the things that get ripped and end up in a BIAB for resale, I try to be careful about who made it and who is selling it.

PS: I'm honest too :(

i have had a few yard sales in my day. if i dont want something anymore, i will try to resell it for L$10 or something like that, or even L$0 if i just want it gone, but not to the trash. i really hate to trash a no copy item.

n&b products will always involve 3 ppl. one doing primwork, one doing scripting, and another doing texturing, signs, etc.
of course its also pretty obvious that this is how it works when one is in the store and looks at profiles, so i guess i have no real point :) maybe its just mildly annoying to realise that ppl may see me as some sort of biab reseller simply because bri does the primwork.
