Yes, it has happened several times, though not in quite awhile.

Yay for me crashing less than a handful of times in the last month
I have heard of that happening to a friend but never have seen it myself. Hell I will be logged in for hours every day (not necessarily always there but easier than logging and relogging every 20 minutes as I am taking care of the kids) and I have crashed less than 10 times in a month. So knock on wood While all of you are crashing like it is a necessary part of SL I will enjoy my combination of factors (whatever the hell they may be) that has allowed me to enjoy a crash free experience. |

Crashing is in fact my usual method of logging out now - as soon as i hit the grey "x" SL crashes and the crash logger comes up then i get a "bad mem pointer" alert.
I'm so used to this now that I'm starting to think it's meant to be that way |

My crash logger is the only thing that hasn't worked since 1.17.0 or so, I just disable it every update now, hmm maybe everyone esle should try that to see if the viewers runn better without it

*shock* But if we disable the crash logger how will we choose not to report crashes??? As I said countless times the crash report fails 9 out of 10 times........if not 10 out of 10. So at its presnt stage its useless anyways. Go in to your pref setting and say NEVER SEND or ask first |

Wow. This is a rare enough occurance to be asking if anyone else has had it ... I envy you Brendan. I truly envy you. Put it this way, if I fly or walk a few steps over the Sim border, let alone TP, I crash and it takes about three attempts to get back in and not time out after 5 minutes. SL is a prison to me atm.

They better off removing the crash report system because 1.) its fails for many to transmits data back to LLabs.
2.) LLABS bus report reads don`t read them anyways. |

I haven't crashed in ages either, and when I have it's been because the sim I was in went down. The crash issues boggle my mind. I've played a lot of games that have a reputation for eating up systems - including recently adding Crysis and Bioshock to the list. When you see people complaining about those games, you can almost always point to something concrete - inadequate system, known bug, bandwidth (if they are online), etc. With SL it seems completely random. Great systems won't run it, crummy systems run just fine, who knows?
Why doesn't this make more sense. Computers are creatures of math. Math is static. We should be able to explain stuff like this with an explanation that is better than "poltergeists". _____________________

I think the problem is in way the code is constructed.
I'm no code monkey, but I've ridden herd on them from time to time, and I know that software to do any given task can be written in a large number of different ways. Programmers are SUPPOSED to follow the guidelines for "good practice" put out by the operating system creators, and "good practices" for whatever language they are coding in. They don't always do that. Nonstandard code MAY work. But on the other hand, there may be bits of the computer (video drivers, memory managers, virus checkers, you name it) that is expecting programs to work in a certain way...and become upset when a program doesn't do that. The more often a program's code deviates from recommended practice, the more likely it is that it will run into problems with some other bit of software. My impression is that LL's programmers are VERY prone to use shortcuts, workarounds, kludges, and other sloppy programming practices. It's a wonder the turkey works at all. _____________________

I don't usually crash in game but when I log off it takes forever or hangs so when I log on again I start with the crash logger.Yes the logger crashes too when it feels like it, I think it's par for the course.
