Hi all.. I spent $900L on a boat, which i used once, and now I can get into it but can't move it.. I noticed when I first used it that I had the "release Keys" option down the bottom of the screen.. while using it SL crashed on me - Since then whenever I try to use the boat i dont have the "release keys" option and I can't move it anywhere I can only "stand up".
Secondly SL keeps going jerky.. I'm running a Mac, and its been really bad the past couple of days. I've deleted all traces of SL and downloaded/installed the newest version. I've cleared the cache etc. What happens is I TP to a new region, it all loads up etc, I can move around then it just starts jerking - if I quit SL and restart it its fine for about 5 mins or so.. I'm running OS X 10.5 on a 20-inch Core 2 Duo... so it shouldn't be hardware problem (everything else works fine)
Any ideas?

I probably can't help you with your jerky problem, Winblows user here, but I just started messing with boats. You might be trying to use the original boat object you purchased, try placing it in the water in a sandbox area or on your property so it reinitializes.
You might also have an AO (animation overriders) that is conflicting with the boat controls, otherwise they operate like any vehicle just that they do it on water. Unload any AO and see if that helps. I know I am having a heck of a time getting dancing HUDs to work due to conflicts with my AO.
For the jerky problems follow the various lag reducing guides that are here and there. It's not so much the horsepower of your machine that's important, it helps but it's the network that counts the most. I've got a newly rebuilt system that is lightning fast but when the pipe is full of garbage nothing will help that.
I'm new to SL so consider that a disclaimer, hope the above helps.

Can't help with the jerky movement, much. You might try rebooting all routers/modems attached to the computer.
On the boat? If it's modifiable, go to tools/reset script in selection and see if that causes it to work?

Ditto what Raudf said -- if you can, reset the script(s) in the boat.
Otherwise, make sure when you rez it, that the boat is not interpenetrating any other prims around. Objects will not go physical if they are interpenetrating, and if the boat can't go physical then odds are it won't work right regardless of what you do.

You are using Leopard? I would strongly suggest the Nicholaz Viewer : http://www.secondlifeinsider.com/2007/10/10/bleeding-edge-nicholaz-edition-s-released-for-all-platforms/Instructions can be found there. Leopard does seem to dislike the latest release candidate. You do not mention what version you are using. With regard to the boat, cutting down on draw distance - about 192, and also setting graphics as low will help you to get started with the boat, and also you can slowly move up with the prefs til you find a good mix between graphics and performance. IM me in world and I am more than happy to help you tweak your system. I have a macbook and have to reconfigure my prefs depending on what I am doing - sailing, shopping, dancing, chatting etc.

On the jerky front, http://www.damngoodjerky.com/ claims to sell the world's best jerky. Apparently, they have really good jerky for boat lovers.
